This week I have mostly been painting ....

B is for Blood Bowl

I dug out my old Blood Bowl Stadium. (Built it over 20 years ago!)
It has been with me a long time and has seen a fair bit of action.
It needs some care and repair ...
... and the base bringing up to date a bit to match my current basing.

Great selection of minis again Harry. Have you played Pony Wars yet? I have a bunch of 15mm Wild West stuff that I've never gotten around to painting as well as the Pony Wars rules.

Thanks.
Yes, one of my favorite games ever. Only ever played it with 15mm. One of my dreams is to play it in 25/28mm. I have the board, the minis ... just need to get it all painted now.

I've often thought of trying to put it on at a convention - but first I'd need to paint the minis, build the boards and play the game  . Who knows maybe watching your progress might inspire me.

I think it would make a perfect convention game ... Give each player a Troop of Cavalry and let the chaos begin.

Got any tips for speed painting Harry? You seem to get through an awful lot of figures and keep the quality of the painting good.
Mmmm? Tips? Forcing yourself to do it is the key. Trying to do a little and often. Try and set some time aside for painting. Get in the painting habit. If you ONLY paint an hour a night ... that's seven hours that's a full day painting in a week. You can paint a lot in a day.
It helps that I am a raving insomniac ... I only sleep a few hours so I can paint when everyone else in the house has gone to bed. Otherwise painting can get in the way of being good dad and hubby.
Next thing is batch painting. I can paint ten of the same model or similar models using the same colours a whole lot faster than I can paint ten individual minis.
Paint simple schemes ... well. A simple neat job will look better than a shabby complicated scheme.
When army painting a simple scheme can look fantastic in large numbers even if any individual mini is not thrilling.
Dry brushing and washes (Simple, effective techniques) speed things up lots.
Bases and faces. Concentrate the efforts on the parts of the mini that folks notice.
Those are the things that spring to mind.
The last thing is not to worry about it. I spent a lot of time not painting very much because I wasn't very happy with my efforts. Then I thought 'sod it'. Started painting stuff and soon started to get better ... and faster.

Oh ... one more thing. Keep some handy. I have some stuff I am painting sitting in the living room.
Then you can pick it up and just do a bit whenever the mood takes you. When it was always locked away in my man cave, out of sight, out of mind it could go untouched for months. Now it is sitting there demanding to be painted. Some times I just pick something up even if I am not in the mood and if that goes well I can get in the groove and end up painting for a couple of hours.

Top tips Harry - thanks! In fact, after reading them I was inspired to go and undercoat my minotaurs for the June challenge :)

As an addendum to Harry's tips, the new-style GW washes are excellent for speed painting. Depending on what I'm working on, I've frequently done just base coat->wash and stopped there because the results were pretty good.

I have to echo Harry mentioning painting for small amounts of time but frequently. I always try to do the tedious stuff for 30 minutes a night, cleaning models, assembling, priming, basecoats etc and then do the detailed painting at the weekend when I've got more time. It's amazing how quickly you can plough through units. Unfortunately I've not done any of the above for a month due to other commitments.

LOL Yes. Me too. It's all good on paper until you get real busy at work or with family stuff.

However the Oldhammer day gave me a final nudge to get stuff finished.

Had to finish the Citadel Giant:

hese are the final pictures I took before Skarsnick had to rip the giant from my clenched fist ... I mean .. before I happily handed the ginat over to its rightful owner. :(
