The Lost and the Damned

I've finally got some painting done in my hobby time instead of the usual procrastination of what to paint next, ebay scouring and general faffing around with rolling d100's on the Realm of Chaos tables. All of which I admit to enjoying greatly, but is not the most productive use of "my time".....

So here's a Chaos Sorcerer with a titilatting pink nurgling (not too sure about this, but I'll keep it for now)

What do you think?

ps. the reason I mention "titillating pink" is because on a recent visit to my parents and specifically my old bedroom, I uncovered an old biscuit tin that had some of my old citadel paints in from the monster paint set I believe. All of which are fine to paint with - amazing. I'll post some pics later of them. Alas there was no old lead, even though I completed a rudimentary search :(

I'm still painting with the 'Expert' set inks. They're amazing, not sure what I'll do when they finally run out. Love the lenses on this guy, really look like the light is bouncing around inside thick glass.

Wow, just wow!

I'd love to know how you do your pastel shades. Is there a particular set of paints or are you doing a lot of mixing?

There's a few "Expert" inks amongst this lot, including Chestnut Ink and it's distinctive smell - boy did that take me back! Apparently Coat D'Arms range of paints is the same as these older ones, I'll need to investigate this:

I used the Chestnut Ink on the rust areas (watered down with some washing up liquid in a couple of coats) and the electric blue and blue ink on the lenses and obviously the titilatting pink on the nurgling. The Elf Grey is a bit runny, but with some stirring I'm sure I can return it to it's former glory. The potency of the inks is what struck me (aside from the familiar smell...)

All my paints are Citadel (old and new) and my only "trick" is an acrylic white paint that I use that encourages the pastel shades. Basically it's a white undercoat, a couple of washes to bring out the detail and shadows then very dilute highlighting layers with the wash colour + white.

Ah my favourite hobby. Painting miniatures is something i do occasionally between rolls.

The latest addition is wonderful. I am particularly impressed by the gemstone like quality of the goggles.

The sorceror is absolutely great, one ofth ebest I've seen. Every time I some one of those Jes Goodwin champions and sorcerors painted like this, I want to strip mine (again) to paint them (again). The pink Nurgling is absolutely great as is, anyone who truly masters his titillating pink like this should receive an doldhammer award or something.

The palanquin is also realy great. You have a very distintive and very neat style , really easy to "read". I love it.

I agree that Sorcerer looks amazing....and I think I could figure out how to use him as a Chaos Renegade Psyker....the hoses and "gas mask" would make him fit quite nicely.

....another one for the "want list"...

Great piece of advice there about using the chestnut ink as a rust agent...I'll have to give that a try. And I agree with your assessment about the potency of the old inks...I only have a few but they are VERY strong inks. One thing I like about the old ones is that they can be re-wet and redistributed if you are not liking how they settle out....this is something I always want to do with newer inks and washes...but they just don't re-suspend the way the old ones did.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Blue

Well I managed to get some more painting done this weekend, I'm quite impressed with my own prolficacy! Here's one of my favourite Nurgle champions, I must have painted a version of him about 3 times over the duration of my hobby career, but I'm a bit of a better painter now and a bit more experimental than just going for lots of Nurgle green:

However these look a bit washed out, I'll try and take some better photos later.
Cheers!

I'm trying to be original, but I can't but point out the obvious, the choices of colours are great, and the paintwork is just amazing!

So with the Easter holidays here I've managed to get some lead painted, three more followers for the warband. Firstly a two headed, snake armed thug/beastman:

And a slightly converted thug (the original casting of his face and sword was pretty poor, so I've swapped in a, ahem plastic head and plasticard sword:

And the first time in a while that I've painted an old-school shield:

And finally an old Orc model, that again I've converted with a spare Ogre head:

and added an old Orc shield to the mix:

Hope you like these; so any comments are as always appreciated. I'm hoping to get lots painted before the Oldhammer Weekend, so stay tuned, I'm currently finishing an Ogre standard bearer and I've started the remaining two centaurs. I also have a whole host of ideas on the backburner.....

Those are splendid ! Th emoon shield i sabsolutely lovely and the skin tone is just so good on all of them. You really prove an overgrown head (is it x2 or x3) can look good without being funny.
The jaguar skirt and even the catachan plastic head work well. Really inspirationnal stuff you're comin up with !

Cheers! I wasn't sure with the oversized head at first, so my usual tactic when unsure is to Bly-tac it in place and ponder for a while... It seems to work and I'm sure to your great relief, I was able to keep the original orc head intact underneath the plastic ogre head. Not so for the thug unfortunately, but I have kept the snipped off head in my bitz box, even though it's a terrible cast I can't quite bring myself to throw it away. Yet I know I'll never use it..

That two-headed beastman is one of my favourite sculpts of all time. You've done a great job painting him (and these others too). The leopardskin turned out well.

Can't belive you chopped that thugs head off , I don't know why but he is one of my favourite thugs .

It wasn't a decision that i took lightly, but the casting was poor (and the original face, to me, was a bit too comical anyway) but I definitely winced when I made the snip! Thankfully the catachan head really seemed to fit when Blu-tacked on and in my opinion I've improved the model...

Some models, like the two headed beastman need no adjustment at all because they're such great sculpts anyway.

I agree, the Catachan head looks great. Reminds me of Rutger Hauer a lot.
