The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum mini

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

Definitely would bite at a new Oldhammer mini. Like others have said - two price points would be good.

Any chance of making him a Standard Bearer?

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

I would be interested and willing to put in some money to help fund (all depending on how much and when of course).

I would be interested in most old school loking miniatures. But mostly a chaaracter which could be put to use in skirmish games or as a leader type for larger armies, so that he/she would stand out.

Chaos warrior with a hammer sounds really good to me. Add lots of spikes! 8-)

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

Thanks for feed back guys. Fo rthe time being I don't think I'm going to make a multi-option price. Before I get time to make a proper sum-up, I would just like to add that I had an estimate made to print 100 folded copies of the reference sheet on the mandatory coloured paper (light blue) and the overall costs is about 40€ which means this option is not what will put the price out of reach, the box could this option is one I consider removable if it gets costy.
I understand the price issue (I have limited funds myself), I'd just like to make something special for the first round.

Other projects could very well be done and would most likely be simpler once this one is done because we would have the experience and less requirements about how we want to pick. I'm still considering making a command unit to transform any regular unit into lead redemptionists, a goblin would be inevitable too but I think we shall see things one step atfer the other.

I really appreciate the proposals to participate and being french means I sometimes don't speak properly which can be tricky with the artists, that I can't go to see the caster, that getting things cast by and sent to a mostly british mob would increase overall costs.

This is what is going to be next :
- Getting a price for each post to get an overall cost (I'm doing this end of sunday or monday maybe)
- Get the names and select the artists involved (this can be done next week)
- see who's in to help launching this project (some people already kind of volunteered)

Thanks a lot.

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

Just had a thought regards casting. Is it possible that Foundry has some very old casting machines, perhaps ones used by Citadel or Asgard, still in service? Would be quite special if it came off one of the original machines.

I don't think this is going to be a price-led. We're talking about a strictly limited edition, wholly old-school created one off piece. Yes you can definitely use it for gaming, but it's also celebration of the art of miniature design and the old school aesthetic.

I thought I was oldschool but you're bad to the bone ! It is indeed a very charming idea and I believe it's worth asking. :)

Yes marketing wise it could add some flavor, but otherwise I don't think that the casting machine used will have any impact on the miniature ;)

No matter what would be produced count me in. Such project are worthy of supporting :)

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

Boxed with an old-school yellow flyer sounds great, but even a single mini is good too. In fact I'd probably like one to paint and one to seal in a hermetic box :)

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

I'm also very up for this, a forum figure would be fantastic. Although I can see lots of dopplegangers meeting up in the field of battle. Maybe we could write that into his fluff? In a titanic battle, an evil sorceror spat a final curse at the champion, splintering his soul into a thousands pieces. Each piece flew across the world and lodged in some dark and fecund place where it grew into a copy of the champion. Each champion felt his reputation diminished by the presence of the others and they sought each other out, at the head of their new armies, in hope of defeating all the others. Until there was only one!

Can you tell I'm bored at work?

You mean, in the Oldhammer way of using other references, "The Chaos Clone War" !

No, we have modern, up-to-date machines! ;)

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

I know I'm a newcomer to this forum but I would definitely jump at the chance for a figure you describe and think it's a wonderful idea.

If this comes to pass I shall buy one and would be happy to support the project if at all possible.

Cheers

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

I would recommend moving this to the Facebook Group as Bryan Ansell, Rick Priestley, Tough Hough, Tony Ackland, Graeme Davis, Drew Williams, Bob Olley, George Fairlamb etc are all members and can be communicated to directly. This forum just doesn't have the reach that Facebook has. Personally, I would approach Tony Hough to do the concept, Graeme Davis to do the background and rules and Bob Olley or Drew Williams to scuplt. They are all freelancers as far as I am aware and will do commissions.

That is, if we can afford them!

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

you are right. I understand lots of them are available but it would be a much simpler thing to directly ask them is such a project could be of interest for them (and why not know who are the most interested amongst them). This is an old hammer project so I guess it would be silly not to use any means t our disposal.

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

I think there's value in not discussing off-forum until we've thrashed out a bit, certainly I'd prefer the creatives should be approached individually rather than on the FB group en-mass, but maybe I'm being over-sensitive.

Bit late 80s for me, but I'm sure the fig would be cool. Hough / Olley could do some killer Rogue Trader work if they put their heads together.

Maybe we could ask Bryan to do all of it, hard core oldschool!

Or... we could just import some Tom Meier figures (joking - Citadel started off by recasting Ral Partha under license)

I agree but after reconsidering things a bit, it's probably better to just tell them directly what we intend to do rather than just post a sample with names for which none of the 3 individuals have been questioned. I don't want them to feel we're trying to use their aura to sell a concept. I 'd rather tell them directly we want a model for our community and we want it made by the likes of them, plain and simple. If it means taking a part of this project onto FB, I don't have any problem with that.

Hough/Olley for the rogue trader old hammer champion - check ;)

Before choosing anyone, could we make a list of :
- artists for the concept art
- sculptors for the miniature
- writers for the rules and background

Then we could ask all of them (by e-mail or via facebook, some people here have direct contacts with some of the people that will be on the list) on their availability and conditions and then choose ?
By the way I'm not sure that all of them would want their conditions to be publicly available on a website/forum, even more if they do us a favor and accept to work for us at a special rate or with an overbooked agenda, so we should probably discuss this in a part of the forum not visible to people not logged in.

Re: The infernal Champion : Proposition for the first forum

One thought regarding packaging... how about oldschool plastic bag with cardboard hanger stapled to it? No box or anything, just a nice little baggie. =)

I don't care much for the extra faff, to be honest. The miniature is enough for me. The concept art might end up on the wall in my gaming area, but not sure. Don't care at all about the write-up.

It's absolutely essential that any commercial information is kept private. I'm not even sure that it should be accessible to everyone who is logged in people, but only those running the project.

That's a bit too '70s for me, but definitely doable and authentic :) I've put out some quote requests for limited run blister packaging, but I don't think it's worth those guys getting involved due to the small run and limited costs, they all seem to be huge set-ups, but we'll see.
