The Citadel Giant- We can rebuild him...

The next obvious question will be why do this next bit? Why because we're hobby nerds that’s why. All kidding a side this was a fun bit to do at the end. For the store? I picked something that could have potentially sold the giant in the early 1980s. If the UK chaps can tell me if I'm close or way off on that, many thanks.

So with no box for the giant, nor any true sense of the dimensions for said box? Answer? Recreate it as best as possible:

Now if someone can tell me what these "certificates" are supposed to look like? Personally, I don't think they are all that detailed (as a guess). Or perhaps better said, it wasn't a certificate at all? I highly doubt it was something in the modern sense of listing "This is number XX out of 1,000"

The replica box is a lovely touch.
Many thanks. Believe it or not finding the roughly right sized box with no text or graphics on it was a bit difficult.

Also, full credit to the 80's Warhammer blog spot for the image, I assume it's Orclord's box?

£29.50? SOLD ^_^

anyway.. though there were two different images used for the front, it's not too hard to work out the size from various shots of it in the box or right next to it

And what's good, is they still make Araldite Rapide ^_^ Citadel could have make a fair bit with that produce placement.

I don't recall but I sold it in 2021. It was a lucky score that had been lying around for a few years before I decided I was never likely to build and paint it.

That's really cool, thanks fpor posting it. Never seen this one before and I'm partial to giants. I have quite a few but none of the really big ones. Is this the very first attempt at a giant this big by a miniature company? I know quite a few followed with the Grenadier goblin War giant maybe being the most famous.

And what kind of money are we talking if you should happen to see one for sale?
I'm guessing a lot, an original metal Otherworld giant recently sold in Canada for $550. US equivalent.

Assume you have seen this collection of giants? http://www.sodemons.com/rhgiants2/index.htm

Gives a better idea of the scale of this big bad lad! Must be the biggest for the time!

One of the guys I gamed with in the 80s had one of those giants and I agree it was fairly well know/its big -very distinct, but not like the Citadel Giant.

A lot. The bigger issue? Is finding one.

It's commonly accepted around 1,000 were made. This is been the line from those who were there and lacking anything the contrary the best number to go with There is no way to know exactly how many were made and how many still exist, but I made some reasonable approximations on it here after studying this for a while:

In short while not "chicken dragon" or Nuln Spearman rare, it's a case of "not many" as a best guess.

See above.

If its somewhat incomplete you might get it for that range, but its not likely that it will have all the parts. And trying to assemble one via parts? Likely would take years if it happened at all.

The two right hands without the club are hard to find and all three victims tough are tough to find. And the heads? Some are more common than others with the feral/snarling bearded one being the toughest of all to find.

thanks for the links.
£1k. I sold a complete boxed one for £1,600 in 2021.
Wow, that's $1400. to over $2K US. It must be the most expensive old collectible fantasy model out there. Definitely the biggest, the other 2 Citadel really large models at Sodemons are plastic i think (unless they were originally made in metal?). The Grenadier goblin war giant is only half the size.

The Nick Bibby Asgard giant (1999?) is the only other one i can see that large that was metal, maybe just as hard to find too

£1k for a spearman? even a prototype shouldn't be that high.. maybe the original green but...

wait.. was this figure released before or after Bryan Ansell left GW?

Keep in mind that a Nuln Spearman sold for over £1K (I know, right?) and there's significantly less metal in one o' them.
ok, someone please explain this one to me? I mean they released a few, but it looks like a dozen other models from different manufacturers. I can understand the giant, or Citadel MD4 Elven attack chariot, but?
In general, the high priced citadel models in general reminds me a lot of UK made turntables, I've owned a couple (a Linn LP12 and now a Rega P5) and they are excellent kit but the Linn especially seems to exceed rational justification for the prices. That said, I am sorely tempted to drop the $250. for the ttack chariot. If i didn't already have 10 years of work here i would do it.

this $1K Nuln spearman reminds me of weird doll collecting

F2 Nuln Spearman by Aly and/or Trish Morrison. It was shown in WD 90 but it's been claimed it was never released. BOYL did a homage. There was some... issues though.

Also, I say 'claimed' cause.. it's kinda a generic figure, so I can't see ALOT of staff wanting ones cast up for them, an there is... enough around (though rare) to make one stop and wonder.

I'll also say.. That is the kinda figure and time where it might have slip into Bryan's package but I don't think It did. But I don't know much about just what he had or how well indexed stuff was. And if someone is able to with the correct rights, to do a correct re-issue of a figure which scalpers are collecting huge amounts and screwing people over... well.. It's not like I'm all against knocking the price down via a good re-issue ^_^
