Fantastic Stuff, I love the shields in the leggings too. You need to make that big toe-nail nasty and yellow. Can't see giants been too keen on foot hygiene.

The flesh tones and lips are really good! For your next photo, could you sneak in something for scale for those of us that will never see one in person?

Hey Harry, are you working to the colour peice by Tony Ackland (in Runequest Monsters) or is the colourscheme and head choice just a coincidence?

Just coincidence ... don't know the illustration you are talking about ... I would love to see it.

Seeing as ti's pure coincidence, it's quite astonishing how similar they are!

runequest_citadel_giant.jpg

it's in the GW version of Runequest 3rd Edition, not the Monsters book, BTW.
The colour reproduction here isn't very accurate, but you can see the scheme. I think it's just a coloured inked version of an older B&W image I've seen somewhere.

OMG!
That is seriously spooky .... but I love that it is such a close match .... makes my scheme seem even more old school cool ... love that I think the same was as Tony Akland. Love that Skarsnik can print that out and the art and mini will sit side by side so nicely.

Now just need to find that knight in the foreground.

Can't thank you enough for posting that image ... it's perfect.

Oh ... and the place you have seen it before is page 234 of 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

It must have got in your head subliminally somehow!

This Man-at-Arms has a similar pose but is armed with a halberd -

He would be perfect. Almost certain I don't have him ... He does not look familiar. I will go and check.

The un-coloured is in WHFB3 though no idea if that's the first outing or not wasn't 3rd ed Runequest about the same time as 3rd ed WH?

Need to go check my monster book now.

This is how I solved the basing .... Didn't want it to be stuck to a base so it could stand alone on its original base but Skarsnik also wanted it on a gaming base.

This is what I came up with:

I made a Green stuff /Clay mould of the Ginats base on a wooden base:

This is a tight fit and you have to put in the front side of the base first ... The slight overhang holds it on.
It actually works really well. The base feels lick it is stuck on and you can lift the giant without it falling off without the use of magnets.

Here it is with my gritty sand mix:

Here it is with some paint on ... painted to match skarsnick's bases.

These are the final pictures I took before Skarsnik had to rip the giant from my clenched fist ... I mean .. before I happily handed the ginat over to its rightful owner. :(

I know some folks thought I was bonkers for taking on a painting job for someone else without payment.
But I would just like to thank Skarsnik for the chance to paint this.
I am pretty sure I will never be able to afford to own one myself but it has been a real treat to have one knocking around my house for a few weeks and to have the opportunity to paint one. (especially given that I am not the best painter around) so thanks for letting me have a crack at this bad boy. It has been a treat.
