Spacecow's Painting Log

Hi!

I've been attempting to paint something other than 15mm scale and rummaged out an old Wood Elf I've had in my collection for about 15 years but stripped of its original, and frankly not too good paintjob.

Oddly I didn't experience the usual frustration that I seem to encounter with painting 28mm stuff of late and actually enjoyed painting him.

Maybe it was the different method of priming (black with a grey and then white drybrush) but he almost seemed to paint himself!

Looking at the photo, I can tell he's been stripped a few times as theres a few rough spots and I seem to have managed to get a bit of brown paint on his sword but thats an easy fix...

All the best!

Re: Wood Elf Leader

It's probably the process of going from 15mm up to 28mm. It makes bigger models feel easier to work on in my experience!

That's a nice old Grenadier Elf I believe, correct me if I am wrong gents. Nicely painted, great colour scheme.

Re: Wood Elf Leader

I particularly like the mint green leggings & the basing sets him off nicely.

I concur theottovonbismark Grenadier Elf by Mark Copplestone (still available from Mirliton or em4)

Re: Wood Elf Leader

Nice job, Smith! The red on the blade could do with a little love, but apart from that very nice! Copplestones are kind models to paint, too. Nice choice.

Re: Wood Elf Leader

Hi!

Thanks for the comments folks! I must admit I am quite pleased with how he turned out and its inspired me to paint up another:

He's a Heartbreaker Elf this time and as he dates from the mid 90s, I went for a properly GW bright period colour scheme. I must admit I have always loved the Dragon Elf sculpts and have several more kicking around which I am looking forward to painting too!

All the best!

Re: Wood Elf Leader

The second guy turned out even better! He's got a rather slim waist, doesn't he? =)

Re: Wood Elf Leader

Hi!

Thanks for the comments folks! I seem to be getting my 28mm painting mojo back and have been eagerly rummaging through my lead pile for suitable bits!

All the best!

Hi!

I decided to rename this topic to cover my assorted attempts at painting 28mm stuff and without further ado, heres another Elf:

Its another Heartbreaker Elf and presented at his sartorial best. I had a bit of a wobble about his leggings but once it was finished, I think he doesn't look too bad!

All the best!

Hi!

Heres a couple more additions in the form of a Ral Partha Centaur and a Heartbreaker Dwarf!

Hopefully I will get some more finished before the end of my hols this weekend!

All the best!

Great job on these, even more so given the rate you seem to be kicking them out. You're obviously a glutton for punishment doing black and yellow stripes on the elf but they turned out really well and that wobble is barely noticeable as the lines are so straight. I think my favourite part is the centaur's body; the warm tones contrast the dark armour perfectly.

Hi!

I must admit the leggings on the Elf caused a few hair raising moments when I thought I had ruined the paintjob!

The centaur turned out really well and I think I learned a lot about washes and glazes doing it which is a plus which I hope to carry on with the next lot I get painted up. Sadly it may be a while before I get chance to do many more as I am back to work from my hols tomorrow! Still I still have a day to clear a few more from the lead pile!

Speaking of which, heres a couple I finished yesterday:

A bit of an eclectic mix I know but I quite fancied trying out the new paint techniques on a 40k figure too and its proved a success, so much so in fact that I am planning on a new mini project too!

All the best!

Hi!

Thanks for the comments folks!

Inspired by Imperial trousers, I have tested out a paint scheme for my Orks on an old Savage Orc I have had kicking around for ages!

Its a tad bright but I do quite like it, especially when compared to my old, drab Goffs...

Hi!

Inspired by my previous Orc, I decided to have a bash at some Orks!

Theres currently a Mantic Marauder and an old school Citadel sculpt done but I have another half dozen or so on the desk awaiting a coat of paint!

All the best!

Love the 'Warning' yellow & black stripes on the Marauder gun. As if the bullets coming out of it wasn't warning enough. i love the ork skin tones! Brilliant, as Paul Whitehouse used to say (sorry for the obscure UK comedy reference). :)
