Regiment of renown oldhammer style

I stumbled yesterday again over the regiment of renown rules for the current Warhammer setting and went trough the. rules again.

I think with little adjustment it is an ideal ruleset for oldhammer skirmishes.

I build several list with Warhammer armies book and liked the feeling of it.

The rules are here ( i think it is legal to post the link, please correct if I am wrong)

You have 100 points to choose from you army list.
There are no heroes, no magic, or war machines allowed in the regiment. I would also exclude chariots. range combat is limited to 25% of models.

Each mini is a single unit and has 360* view

Additionally the differenciation in core and elite is not there in Warhamer armies, but maybe all +x elite choices can be evaluated as elite.

I like the root test starting with 50% loss, but I woudl exclude the rule for panic test when one guys was put out of action OOA.
it is to much rolling dice for me, when one model dies.

What do you think?

Brilliant! You could use the old warhammer armies troop type boxes as stat-cards to do a standard warband of any kind.

basically Realm of Chaos or Mordheim without character development.

I like the look of this; i'm tempted to organise something similar as an event at boyl 2015 using 3rd edition rules...

I have not tested it yet, but I will.

The only thing I think is difficult is teh fact that demons are so expensive. Do you know of they are worth their points as regiment in a full army battle?

I have not played them with third edition rules yet only sixth and seventh edition and I own some of them.

Sounds like an excellent idea for a game at BOYL 2015. I would certainly be interested in playing. You might want to consider a higher points limit and to allow larger units but either way it could be lots of fun.

I agree you could extend the points and also include small units, in that "original" form it is a pure skirmish without any regiments

I think these look like right fun! As people mess around with them and mod them for 3rd ed please post up your ideas for the rest of us.

I'll do the same.

Cheers,

I start with my regiment in this post. It will be edited lateron

I choose
1 Hammerer ( leader and DoW): Grugnis cloak ( regeneration 5+)
1 Ironbreaker ( DoW): family book of grudges ( Wearer gets hatred)
1 Dwarf Clansman with heavy armour (DoW) "broken mighty magic axe" wearer gets D6 attacks
1 crossbowmen with heavy armour with shield
1 crossbowmen with heavy armour
3 troll slayer with additional hand weapon

I need to work out the names and the 20 point magical equipment of the leader.

The magic weapons and arrows in the armies book are not fitting to the 20 points limit.

There is no weapon for 20 points because they cost all minimum 25 ( naked) but with the 5 points abilities they are maybe acceptable

Missile arrows are either one shot arrow for 20 points an absolute killer and totally cheesy in that setting or a multiple times arrow for 10 points which always hits ( also too strong), maybe the 5 points arrows which allow no armour save or give +1 to hit are strong but acceptable.

The armour abilities are weak, and should be upgraded to 10 points.

What do you think?

Ok i made a picture of my regiment

The slayers do not fit with regard to the bases, but I hope you like them nevertheless

If you would like to see more of the artist who painted the Ulther dwarfs I could post a link (if it is allowed)

Another mini I really would like to build a regiment around is this one

I would try to combine the armies rule with the 3rd edition basic book to let my Ironbreaker ride this sweet bear. I would give him the special rule large, because he is large. maybe +5 points for being a bear rider ( the rules do not suggest it but I think it could be fair

15+5+20= 40 points. Seems to be fair to me.

I had my first two oldhammer regiment of renown skirmish games.

First one Dwarfs versus Orcs:

I love the weaponskill rules of third edition. Weapon skill is important, when you charge you get bonus on to hit rolls.
I also love the push back rules.

Things we did not play as in third edition.

Reserve movement. We just run, because it is easier and faster.

The dwarfs won although both parties were rooting with six orcs of 13 out of action and 3 of eight dwarfs

Open questions: Should you perform psychological test when single units (= single models) were destroyed? We did not because we thought to throw so many dices everytime one mini goes is too much dice throwing for one death.

We played roughly one hour and it was fun.

We did not use the special weapons because I played with a newbee and wanted to have it as easy as possible.

The 25% range combat rule is great though.

We played another game were I also made some pics, which I will post later.

That x-bow guy ( not the brewer ) sure is rare , wish I had one! That guy sure can paint! I'd like the link you mention! Gc

Thank you the crossbow man with fur cap is fantastic. I only saw him once on ebay.

By the way: I love seeing that you are living in Bufallo, hometown of my beloved Sabres (although they really suck this year)

I promised an after battle report.

here it is

This is the smal village named "village neuf"

A Brettonian knight was resting in the tavern with two of his villains and croossbow men when the message arived that a small chaos mob was seen moving in the direction of the village.

The knight immediately organised the defense with his men and some rascals/ farmer.

No Dogs of war and no additional magic weapon were provided. My enemy was a new to Warhammer so I wanted to make it more easy.

The Brettonian regiment

1 Chevalier D'Honneur with barding
2 villains,
2 crossbow men
5 rascals

The chaos regiment

1 thug on horse with lance and heavy armour shield
1 minotaur with additional hand weapon
3 beastmen with additional hw

Rascals on left flank

Crossbow men in good position

Chaos advances

Unfortunately I do not have more pics.

But the minotaur and chaos thug attacked the badly positioned knight, which fled after being attacked ( we played the rout wrong) The knight was killed and the rascals who wanted revenge for their leader also died but did injure the thug leader.

The villains and rascals were stopped by the beastmen , which killed one Brettonian after another.

With the first rout test the Brettonian ran away.

We did play the routing Brettonian knight wrong and did play the additional hw wrong. I used the Mortheim rules which was much too powerful. With correct rules the battle would not have been so one sided.

I love that Ws really does matter. The rascals with Ws2 have really trouble to hit the the Ws4 beastmen, but this was mitigated due to their charge.

I also love the push back rules which allow to break into a battle line and make room for more own attackers next turn.

Although we did plenty wrong we had lots of fun. Each battle was finished after roughly one hour so they went by really quickly.
