Yep, definitely great palette. Purple beard is pretty unusual choice but looks excellent and gives that little splash of colour to break the coherent look. Really like your paint job on these.
I really like that mustard yellow/ orange colour you've used to tie these minis together. They are clearly from the same army but still look unique.
These old ork sculpts are an absolute treat and you've done them justice.
Just noticed that fella in far left has an converted weapon... or am I imagining things here?
Ha, you're quite right! That guy (4403-11) usually has a serrated bayonet out of his left hand. That was missing when I got the mini so I decided to replace the bayonet with some fancy gun barrels made out of valves from the inner workings of a BIC lighter.
Thanks for the nice comments on the paint job - all the Orks are done up using the same yellow and grey with some extra colors splashed on. I'm still working out how to get decent photographs of them.
Thanks!
I do like lighter parts for 'techie'conversion bits.
Recently I discovered that modern-day orks in heavy armour need a Mekaniak to come along who's just as heavily armed as they are. So I slapped together an armored ork and gussied him up with more lighter parts to be a 'Big Mek in Mega Armor' as kids today call it.
The most modern and dernier cri version of 40K these days seems to be 'Kill Team'.
Keeping busy painting up 1st Ed RT Orks, I thought it worthwhile to assemble just such a super-modern task force out of lovely old Orks.
So here is my Kommandos Kill team:
This is the boss with grot and (bomb)squig
a shooter and an ex-BB thrower with a missile launcher
These were done previously: sniper, techie and flamer. The techie can listen in to your opponents' battlefield shortwave, so I picked a boy which looks like developing some latent telepathic powers
and finally some same-era fantasy Orcs press-ganged into service on the battlefields of a war-torn distant future. A regular Ork boy, slasher and a brute with a breacher ram
I've tried to get a better pic of the kaptin. Here he's posing with another miscreant
Another all-time faorite is the Shokk Attack Gun. it's just the perfect blend of zany orky technology and weird sorcery. Always wanted to paint one and now I did. And of course a Runtherd tags along to keep the live ammo in line (get it? live ammo? live? eh? eh?) -the snots themselves still need to be cleaned, assorted, based and painted though.
