Oldhammer Day at the Foundry Discussion

Sounding great so far. I'm pretty happy to just go with the flow of the day to be honest.

Also, as the forums Nottingham resident, I'll be happy to show you all round some of Nottingham's finest drinking establishments during the evening.

Like Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem? Great real ale, and the sort of typpling house Warhammer players just have to go, surely?

A cornerstone of any good night out of course, but there are lots more places to discover too.

From WF on St Marks Street we are only a moderate stagger away from Brewdog in Hockley if anyone fancies losing their power of speech. They sell some very fine (but expensive) insanely strong ales.

Just had a look at what it would cost me to get to Nottingham, and seeing how it's roughly £1000 and a 10 hr flight (cause apparently I need to go via Amsterdam) I doubt I'll make an appearance. I'm sure it can be solved cheaper and faster. Will ask my loving wife if she can look into it, she's the one who does all the travel arrangments in our home.

Its about £250 return from Copenhagen to Birmingham via Brussels or Frankfurt, I went a couple of months ago for work. I know its over the border in biscuit-land but is Copenhagen your nearest international airport (apart from Malmo obviously)?

Nottingham is only marginally more difficult to reach from Birmingham Airport than it is from "Nottingham" East Midlands Airport...

Thanks for the tip! Cph it is indeed, but I look at Malmö departures too. Cph is easier to get to though, direct train from my town is only about £12 or so.

Phreedh - I've no idea about where flights you'd be likely to catch will land but if you end up at Leeds Bradford you'd be more than welcome to share a lift down to Nottingham.

Similarly I've no idea if ferries are a feasible option but again if you end up in Hull (God forbid!!) I'm just down the road in York. :)

The ferries from Denmark are pretty expensive, my Swedish trip last year would have involved about 18 hours less driving if they had been a bit more reasonable!

I was thinking of this... I live near Stansted airport (15 mins from my house) and Erny lives 45 minutes away so a 'road trip' would indeed be possible...
Great, I'll consider it a possibility. For what its worth, August and September are fine by me, except the first week of August.
Alright, I'm seriously pondering to fly over and join the fun in Nottingham, but before I register and seal my fate, I need to make sure I've got my ride from Londen to Nottinghamm and back covered. Flying directly to Nottingham is a no go, it will cost me triple the costs....

This is the best I could find.

31-08-13 Arrival at 08:50 London, Luton Intl airport
01-09-13 Departure at 19:15 London, Luton Intl airport

or

31-08-13 Arrival at 09:35 London,Stansted
01-09-13 Departure at Departure at 18:30

I prefer London, Luton Intl airport, because it's closer to Nottingham and the departure is later. I probably need to go back to Luton Intl airport around 16:00 to get there 1 hour upfront to check-in. This means that whomever is taking me there needs to leave 1 hour earlier before the Oldhammer event ends.

So, Orlygg, old buddy, old pal, how about that ride? or if anybody else is in the neighborhood and leaving around the same time, I would love to hitch a ride. You'll be rewarded with lead or just good company ;)

Cheers,
Dreamfish

DreamFish,

I think the problem is you are going from Luton airport, possibly of all oldhammerers I'm the closest but going down to Luton and then back up again is going to mean leaving the event an hour earlier and add two hours to my travel time that would be on top of picking my brother up, already adding an hour. Is there no way you could fly in to Stanstead? Orlygg mentioned he was only 15min away.

Failing that how about a later flight from Luton, I'd need to run the extra driving time past the wife, we have kids and all. It would be a shame for you to miss it so their must be something we can do.

Erny, Stansted is a possibility, but the arrival is one 45 minutes later and departure is one hour earlier.

31-08-13 Arrival at 09:35 London, Stansted
01-09-13 Departure at 18:30 London,Stansted

From what I could find there is no flight flying later than 19:15 hours. The only option is to leave early on a monday.
