Very nice.

I'm hoping to win this:

(so hands off if anyone else is thinking of bidding!) I know it's huge, but I'm only using bits of it....

otherwise I might have to resort to this:

Looking good folks - how does the 1:72 ship scale up to 28mm minis Paul? I'm thinking specifically about the detailing like portholes and stairs and the like - do they look a little on the small side or does the general look of the whole thing kind of work?

Looks nice and Gobliny Fimm!

Not to be outdone, my little fleet arrived in the post while I was away,

As you can see there are two of them! I'm going to build forecastles for them and probably aft castles as well. First job is to glue the hulls together and cut them down to the waterline. I really want to arm them with the brugelberg cannons from lead adventure miniatures but they are sooooo expensive! The crew are going to be a proper mix of the worlds traders, empire, tilean, estalian and maybe even dwarves! What ship wouldn't benefit from a flame cannon?
I've already named one 'the Prince of Foxes' I've still got think if a second.

Any idea how that matches up to 28mm figures? I did look at that one (in the Argos "laminted book of dreams" - made by Chad Valley) but couldn't picture whether the size would work and didn't want to risk £20.

There are some good close ups of the Zvezda Thomas here, with 28mm figs on slottabases to give an idea of the scale:

It's worth having a nose on ebay for Revell's Hansa Cog - it's the same basic kit, but without the crow's nest and with a much smaller forecastle. Less ideal for carrying figures, but they sometimes go for naff all on ebay. I got two of them, neither of them for more £15 including postage. I think most of the ships on the Mister Rab's link above are the revell ones.

There are a couple more Zvezda variations - a crusader cog and a teutonic knight cog, but the Thomas seems the best bet with its large forecastle.

I wanted to stay away from this but your pics just brought a massive amount of sweet memories, I actually started modelling with Heller models like these, oh good lord, I am weak... how can I turn one into a chaotic vessel...

Thanks for the tears on my cheeks.

Ah bless your Gallic socks! I've got two of them JB if you want to build a crew for the other ship I'll convert it a launch it and bring it along so that you can play.
I've already started to build the forecastle

Great stuff so far. Nice to see some scale pics, I've never been game to buy a 1/72 ship just to see.

Anyway, here's my attempt painted up! It's fun how fast paint dries when painting balsa wood.

Loving this thread! Can't believe how quickly you've all got things started.

My boy's got that Argos pirate ship. I may have to convince him he doesn't want it any more. Not sure he'll believe me. ;)

Oh, for the luvva Mike ... I have one of those Black Pearls too. And a sprue of those Renedra barrels. And a Viking longship just gathering dust.

I'm gonna see if I can find a cheap model ship and Nurgle it up. You know, one of these days.

I love this thread already....as a gamer AND a Nautical Archaeologist there is a lot to love in these pages already! 8-) :D

Cheers,

Blue

That looks fantastic, mate. Your technique of painting the planks different shades really sets it off.

Yeah, I was just thinking that. It's a really simple decision that really makes the raft look ramshackle.

Hooray! I won the enormous ghostly galleon... and apparently it lights up! :)

Now I don't suppose anyone has those gold dust Kev Adams Goblin Pirates from Bruno they want to part with? I realise they're probably rarer than a chaos toilet these days...!

Mine came about a month or so ago - after all that time. I was very surprised indeed. Surreal. So ... don't give up, Thantsants, stranger things have happened at sea, as they say, so they do.

Never received mine in the end...

Drop him a note on FB...it seems he has been trying to straighten things out with folks who had issues. He replaced my broken figure for me about a month ago as well.

Cheers,
