Excellent paint Job really like the bits you've used to create the drum kit.

Thanks. It was a quick gluing together of bits and pieces rather than anything very complicated, but it worked out well enough. Its pretty unmistakably a miniature set of drums, so mission accomplished in that respect.

You definitely a synth guitar player 8-)

Ideally a barefoot keytar player in a white suit wearing a headband. Something like this:

I would love to do it really, but I dont want to spend ages making a model like that. I am sure it would be funny, but I am not sure that it would be a good way to spend my time when I could be painting something else instead.

Its tempting though. How could an image like this plus quote not inspire:

jamesbrownkeytar.jpg

James Brown:
“The first time I tried to play that thing,” he said about the Keytar Grand, “my back locked up in the middle of the song.”
“I shouted ‘Help Me!’, but no one did anything. So I cried ‘Ow!’ But, still – nobody helped me out.”
“Finally, I told the horns to take it to the bridge and drop it. I had to tell them to ‘Drop it!’ two times before they threw that thing in the river.”

I'm late to the party but dare I say these models rock? OK I'm out, but before leaving, let me tell express my sincere congrats for a top notch job. Every detail like the shades, the neon-like name on the drums and the mk6 helmet, they all help make it go from the "very good" spot to the "excellent" one.

Thanks JB. The drum kit is just a simple gluing together of appropriate shapes really, but it worked out. Of all the various bits, the tau shield drone/cymbal is probably my favourite. I wasnt going to bother adding it, but when I did the drummer immediately looked significantly more integrated with the drums. Plus its funny, to me anyway.

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

See, I didn't notice the Tau thing but it is exactly what I was talking about, the little details that make it grand !

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

I don't know about the keytar for an Ork band. They strike me as strictly heavy on the low E or drop D power-chord types. Kind of like Rage Against The Machine, but with lyrics written by Manowar and performed by Lemmy.

They could have two drummers. The Melvins did it.

Leave the Keytar to the Noise Marines and Deep Purple.

You actually made a point about the keytar, But I think the real orky way is that of Max Cavalera (just get rid of those 2 last strings, they're for shredding elvish pussies). Oh I love your concept of band ;)

I am nothing more than a bluffer when it comes to most music. Heavier rock and metal and the various sub-divisions of each are well beyond my sphere of knowledge really (I do know those mentioned above though). I can however tell you this much about Mushrööm Klöwds musical influences:

  • When I imagine how a "real" ork band somewhere in the 40k universe might sound, I tend to think of Rammstein.
  • When I paint up daft top hat wearing, skull and leather covered rokker miniatures my head fills with lots of Spinal Tap (Stonehenge, Hell Hole and Rock and Roll Creation primarily) and occasionally stadium crap like Europe in my head.
  • When I am at a low ebb and wondering what the hell I am doing with my life, spending hours painting bizarre alien space musician toys, Mushrööm Klöwd sound like Aerosmith ;)

I have a small series of linked games planned for this weekend. The last scenario will involve one side trying to activate a sonic doomsday device and the other side trying to stop it. The Klöwd will feature as the various components of the sonic device.

Although I dont usually listen to music while gaming, I was considering setting up a playlist to throw on Grooveshark for that scenario. Does anyone fancy helping out with a track listing to cover a two hour game? I mean, I can put Stonehenge, The Final Countdown and Ich Will on, but surely you guys can pad that out a bit, possibly add a bit more cred :)

Any takers?

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

There should definitely be
"Shattered" by Pantera, that's the tune I'd play in a doomsday sonic device
"Cuckoo for Caca" by Faith No more, just because it's good and the intellectual level of the lyrics must be somehow close to the average ork intellectual level.
"Mechanix" my Megadeth; just because it sounds like Mekaniak and because they play it faster than Metallica's "4 horsemen"
"Seek and Destroy" by Metallica, just because
Absolutely anything by Motörhead , really

I think a real quick and easy solution would be to play either or a combo of the first REAL 4 albums (meaning BEFORE cowboys from hell) by Pantera :

Metal Magic (1983)
Projects in the Jungle (1984)
I Am the Night (1985)
Power Metal (1988)

You have all the 80's madness, power rock, glamour and extravanganza you'd want and it's totally audible by non-metalheads
Oh, and I'd avoid Rammstein as much as possible but that's just personnal...

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

I knew that I could rely on you guys :) Mushööm Klöwd salute you.

I will set up the named tracks and then pad out with the Pantera albums.

I'll offer some GWAR

I know nothing about GWAR except what I read about them when I was a teen. I have never even listened to them, but I had a feeling that they might get a mention here :)

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

GWAR are definitely an acquired taste, but the lyrics (once you read them/if you can make out what Oderus is "singing") are hilarious, disgusting, ridiculous and so dumb they're actually clever.
Pretty sure they stopped by the GW studio back in the golden years, they reference things like Chaos Warriors, Manticores, Trolls and obviously Yig.
Marauding Space Warriors (Scumdogs Of The Universe) with krak addictions...their concept albums and movies (Phallus In Wonderland  ) in the 90's were sublime.

Anyways, I'm rambling...

I fully endorse your rambling about GWAR, and I think they have a few songs that appeal to the unitiated. I had heard that they were fans of GW way back in the day. Here's my Ork playlist. (For extra kicks you should watch music videos for Penguin, also called Penguin Attack)

Hail Genocide - GWAR
Let Us Slay - GWAR
Penguin - GWAR
Battle Maximus - GWAR

Am I Evil? - Diamond Head (Metallica does a cover that is a little heavier.)
Holy Wars - Megadeth
Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth
Roots, Bloody Roots - Sepultura
Ratamahatta - Sepultura (Don't listen to this song if you're slightly mentally unbalanced. I don't want to be held responsible for anyone going on a machete rampage)

I'm going to have paint my Goffik Rokkers now.......

My machete is currently in the shop having the brain matter buffed off, so no worries.

Do it, your painting style will really suit them I reckon. Your blood drenched, crucifix-jammed-up-cloaca, hardcore troupe can then stick it to my sell out stadium rockers ;)

(and thanks for the track suggestions too :) )

OK I'm stopping here, you're pulling the best song of the best metal album ever. I did not choose itbecause it is far too refined for orks but damn it's good, I'm stopping now before turning this modelling thread into a headbanging pit...
Lopez, Bruno, you both have my gratitude and respect for very fine musical taste (although I would have prefered earlier Sepultura...) thanks Cheetor.

Now I'll go back listening to Bolt thrower and finish those chaos renegades of mine...

Well....... now I have to paint them!! I need to find an effigy of the 'oomie emprah to decapitate on stage!

(and thanks for the track suggestions too :) )

Of course! Always happy to spread the joy of metal.

An Ork would never come up with Holy Wars, but the first time an Ork heard Holy Wars I imagine he would stop dead in his tracks, with a wide eyed awe-struck expression on his face, spontaneously sprout another Ork to fight with and their blood drops would sprout other Orks who would start moshing and fighting. Then it would turn into a thousand-Ork mosh-fight pit and they would just run off in a random direction, destroying everything in their path.

Yup.... Orks would like Megadeth.

Re: Goff Rokkers *Now With Drummer*

You win Lopez, put this way, there's nothing to be discussed here. You're 100% right.
At first I thought it ws just Nostalgia because I discovered that album when I discovered miniatures but no. It is a brilliant album and that's all.

In a setting where orks have human advisors and commisorks, I guess they would totally be awed by Marty "elvish" Friedman' solos and Nick Menza unstoppable beats...

Cheetor, you can just add "Rust in Peace", the whole album on your list...

I think you have to be slightly unbalanced to think you can make the lyrics amongst all the gutteral noises that are being passed off as lyrics ;)

Edit: and thanks to you, I immediately put this song on my car stereo this morning.

Re:Mushööm Klöwd Goff Rokkers: Steev Tylork & Sound Guy & Bu

In the run up to 2015 I have been trying to clear my desk of a few projects that have been left in semi-completed limbo. First to be completed was Steev Tylork, the Mushööm Klöwd lead vocalist.

steevtylork12.jpg

Steev is a second edition Weirdboy Warphead with his staff converted into a mic stand, but you guys probably already knew that.

Along the way Suber donated a gretchin crew member from the Stompa kit to perform sound engineering duties. I cobbled together a quick sound desk from Hexagon parts and plastic card and rod.

The desk is a little crude up close, but its worth it to have a model to represent the "NoyzKraft Kustom 200" all the same. The blog post about these two, including more info and images is HERE.

steevtylork3.jpg

I never put images of the Töör Bus up in this thread before now - the vehicle images were subsumed into one of the BOYL threads back in August - so for the sake of completeness, here are a couple of shots of the bus. The bus blog post is HERE.

toorbus4.jpg

toorbus3.jpg

Since this photo was taken I have added the regulation umlauts to the "O"s in "TOOR".

And lastly an image of the entire band, their engineer and their wheels.
