Mophus' White Dwarf Terrain

I also build the Battlemasters tower, removed the strange concrete block behind the banner and placed it on a base. There's only missing paint work on the banner and the surrounding golden ornaments plus the flock of the base.

It's a casting issue. can't have the hangs on a steel tooled mould. though I believe some buildings do have blocks like that, but I see what you removed it and looks nice ^_^

Welcome back! Nice to see someone trying that piece by hand. 👍
Yes, it turned out to be the most challenging one, until now. First there's no plan available, so I had to check many photos for reference and details, furthermore I tried to stay as near as possible to the measurements of the original and was checking photos with the ruler to assume the dimensions, although I failed already on the window facing the fireplace (to big and too low) and the width of the roof (too large).

Great to see people still working on these buildings the old school way, makes a refreshing change from MDF and styrofoam.

Totally. Much as I enjoy the various resin bits and pieces I have as models in their own right, my real love is still scratch building bits of terrain, a love I really must attempt to find time to get back to!

The watch tower is looking great, coming along nicely.

Yesterday I started adding the nails on the woodwork. On the door, torch and rains ring I used drawn sprue, but now I treated myself to use Evergreen profiles, I bought on Saturday for the Elven tower and its frame for the gem over the main door.

I also tested a light green flock by NOCH (similar to Woodland Scenics Burnt Grass), because I want to switch from static grass to the more original look of yellowish green flock. Before varnishing, the NOCH flock looks really 1:1 to the 4th/5th edition one, but varnishing darkens it significantly and the overall look of the surface is also inferior (see pictures before/after). I'm looking forward if someone has a good tip on flocking to get the desired look.

I'm also curious, if someone has an idea what the weather vane is made off. Is it a part of a miniature or kit, or something completely different?

The flag itself is straightforward - I've already made a similar flag with fringe for a napoleonics Württemberg flag out of aluminium foil and paper.

Ah, now the weathervanes is a interesting point...

I haven't got a clear image of that particular model.. I'm pretty sure a C29 Bat... Do you have a decent image of the right one, cause It very much looks familiar from the silhouette but haven't quite seen it clearer to to figure it out.

I've actually been drifting the other way and moving more towards static grass. That's mostly because I got fed up with how badly sawdust flock fade-in the sunlight and I'm sooooooo slow at painting I found bits of terrain I'd finished needed revisiting again, which was annoying.

If you remind me of what a good WD issue for the tower is I'll take a look at the vane.

Thank you! Yes, of course there are hundreds of 3D printed or laser cut models, but I prefer researching and building the old Modelling Workshop ones. In fact I have to force myself to paint some miniatures, in between, to have something to play with the terrain.
:)

I have to check. I have made a note of all the pages in the 5th edition rule and sourcebook and the terrain book, where which part of the tower is visible. But the flag part is always a little bit blurry or too far in the background, if I remember correctly.

Attached a quick snap (sorry scanner is packed away in the cupboard) for reference.

Assuming we're talking about the same bit as the weathervane I think it's just the banner topper from the Imperial Herald (Green Catalogue - part 3, p.340) a Michael Perry sculpt.
