Michaels Warhammer English Civil War

Thanks dudes.
I can't pretend the paintjob is better than it is, but at the same time I am sure it is better in the flesh than via my photography skills show.

Gotta go metal!!

My wife has decided she will play with me so I will be placing an order with Foundry for her Royalists, no musket rests for her shooty shooty boys, and her cavalry will be Cuirassiers, so easier to paint too.

Oh and I will be ordering civilians and people for scenarios.

I reckon 12 months before both forces are finished.

Perrys were/are Royalists ^_^ but be careful with ECW, remember what happened to... I'm gonna say Michael Perry.. he showed the world he is better sculptor with his non-dominate hand then most people will ever be with their dominate hand. amazing bloody work even after that..

I'm having flashbacks to the first episode of Battlegrounds.. the Battle of Edgehill (1642), Royalists vs Parliamentarians. In the real battle, the Royalists Won.. in their Miniature version, Parliamentarians won.

I drive up Edgehill most days. I'm not sure exactly where the battlefield was, but if one force was at the top of the hill and one at the bottom, it's a beast of a thing to fight up. So steep that if think fighting on the slope would be near impossible, certainly for ranked pikes and cavalry

A little. I've dabbled in the Thirty Years War and have some interest in the fighting in Scotland. And, living in Wiltshire, I'm familiar with the battle of Roundway Down & the poor showing of Haselrig's lobsters there.
I reenacted the battle of Roundway Down (or maybe it was a fight outside Devises during the same campaign?) back in a horrendous rainstorm in the late 80s. I had a blanket over me and occasionally stuck the muzzles of my musket out to give fire! 'Twas the only way I could keep my powder dry and my match lit!

You seem to be doing yourself a disservice on the paintjob, it looks lovely to me!

ECW is one of the 3 time periods I've always wanted to paint (ECW, Napoleonic & WW2) probably down to watching the film Cromwell as a kid ! From the look of the models in your army and the painted guy I'm going to be fighting the urge to buy some and add to my long list of half started projects. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I don't think the paintjob is bad, just not worth the hours?

Are you in the UK?
North Eastish?
Could be a game ready and waiting soon?

:D

Musket rests were used very early in the war but soon fell out of fashion. Having another thing to carry on the march was considered the greater inconvenience compared to being able to rest your musket during the act of firing and when standing sentinel. Going through the postures without a musket rest is also easier, as is loading. And yet ... I enjoy using musket rest. 😜

I have just tried a Pike and that is about 2 hours, much less stuff on the model and a less thorough paintjob too.

Just had a go at another pike to see if it was as quick.
Just under 2 hours so that is very encouraging.

I will have a go at a less feathery musketeer and see if I can get that down to about 4 hours, which will be a big improvement on the original musketeer.

Placed the order with Foundry this morning for her army and a bunch of scenario civilians, they are due tomorrow morning...

Talking of scenarios.

I will dump my scenario ideas below and update as I think of them, not for any real reason other than to have them online somewhere I can find them.

SCENARIOS

Can't You Just Weigh Her Instead?

The wife/lover/sister/important female of Andrew Stockton has been put on trial as a witch.
The witchfinder, Gustav Weil is renown for always finding people guilty, even his own kin.

Andrew sets off to rescue her from his clutches before it is too late.
However the dastardly Royalists are aware of this (did they fabricate the rumours?) and have set a trap from Stockton just outside the town she is to be tried.

Can Andrew break through and rescue her in time?
