Metal Nostalgia Force painted models

Gun-Sword, common Japanese sci-if fantasy weapon ^_^ kinda just a gun with a Bayonet. (compared to me playing Zombicide at the moment where I did end up carrying a Corkscrew with a knife attached... which turned out to bloody powerful in the right hands)

Or is it!?! 🧐

I don't use Youtube, but it doesn't seem like much of a leap - the text adjacent to the image refers to the Inquisitor by name and describes him as wearing a civilian style hat, a cloak, skin tight power armour with a sword (more chainsword in the image than powersword, more like the drawing in the model) and bolt pistol, which aligns enough with the drawing that I don't really see a reason to think otherwise!

Great paint jobs whatever you want to call the models!
The joins on alot of models (old metal particularly) can be suspect as they need to consider the practicalities of casting. Just have to go with the flow when painting them… 😅
There are numerous of Olley sculpts still in production from Ral Partha Europe & Legacy, some of them are tagged with him as the sculptor (if you can’t tell by the faces! 😉).

Cheers - I shall have to check out those ranges!

My mate had/has that miniature. The weapon in the right hand confused me. Was it a gun? Was it a sword? Was it a sword-gun?

I couldn't quite decide - the text suggests it might be a power weapon and the drawing looks more like it's at least in part a chainsword... and the sculpt seems like not exactly either haha I just went with hazard stripes and left it up to interpretation. It did cross my mind briefly to convert it into something more resembling a shotgun but I left it as it was.

There are real life examples but were found to be impractical.

I remember seeing an Ottoman or Arabian one once in a book, long, long ago; a pistol sword with a basket hilt kind of set up. Looked neat, but yeah, probably not terribly useful as either a gun or a sword. The grip was set up so the wielder could fire the gun, but that would make it harder to use the blade properly, I suspect. And the basket hilt would probably make it very difficult to service the pistol properly. A rifle/spear works well enough. Everybody and their brother put bayonets on rifles. But rifles and spears are maybe a bit more forgiving in how you hold them than pistols and swords, and they both have higher utility for pitched battles in any case.

Got another one done already - woo! If I can get seventeen more done this year I'll have topped my minis-per-year painted record.

I haven't ever painted a Tyranid before! Not sure I'd continue the skin-tone theme through, but it seemed to suit this oddball...

Oh, glorious! I love what you did with the veining on the body. Very nicely done! I ought to find some squigs like that to put into my own RT tyranid force.

Cheers! I hadn't tried glazing over red to get the semi-translucent skin over veins effect before but it wasn't as bad as I expected, and a little bit of blue oil paint with some thinners applied afterwards did a good job of the blue sections with occasional spiderwebbing.

Got another one done - three in one week is a lot for me! This one is tiny though:

More pics.
He's on a ~22mm round slottabase.
