I've Never painted a ....... before - The Fantasy 100 club

I love how this thread has been going for over 10 years! Lovely stuff twisted moon and a lot more obscure than my 'an elf' back in No 47. I do feel there's either a brilliant campaign (or bad joke) waiting to be written about a rat tank, raft, giant chaos snails and beetle and piranha swarms.

These were used in a game of WFB 2nd he GMed at BOYL this year. Great fun!

Good to see the piranha again.

The Dungeon Master
Also as a general BTW I don't really see that the thread need close at 100, so by all means to those that have their own contributions please do feel free to do 101+, same for the 40k thread of course.

I have not painted a dog before, let alone a dog that is not a dog dog, nor an AD&D model before.

So here is a Blink Dog which is also an AD&D miniature, neither being something I have painted until now.

(Though it is not painted as a Blink Dog, just a doggo for my WFB farm.)

Thank you, very much.

I always try to look up actual animals when painting them, they may not be amazing paintjobs but they are at least actual colouration, which always helps them look more real I think!

:D

I was amazed to realise I hadn't done one of these.

I have never painted a pygmy before. Some would suggest there are very good reasons for that, and fair enough. But I wanted to try a different concept for them than the old-style Lustria pygmies using this model from Dark Fables miniature as a necromancer. He's raising a Wizkids Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures Bone Naga.

That’s a neat model and not just a mildly racist stereotype, so I think you’re safe! ;)

Nice paint job. I also like how you chose the pygmy for the challenge which must imply you've done a heap of Marvellous Bone Nagas before :).

Good point! The reason that both feature is that this is a twofer - this was also the Oldhammer Odds and Sods painting challenge for this month had the theme of "wicked" and I wanted to illustrate his wickedness through him being a necromancer and given the snake in his hand a giant snake skeleton seemed the appropriate thing for him to raise. But I went with that concept because I'd never painted a pygmy before and wanted to do something for this challenge before it hit the 100. In fact this represents several "I have never"s...
  • I have never painted a pygmy
  • I have never painted darker skin colour
  • I have never painted a skeletal giant snake
  • I have never painted that weird soft plastic that wizkids models are made out of
  • I have never painted in an I have never challenge (ok, a bit meta that one. Still true though!)
