I've Never felt as old as I do right now....

What shall we call it if "oldhammer" becomes appropriated to mean anything Oop? Perhaps "Eightieshammer", or "olderhammer".

"Oldhammer" can retain its meaning, "Retrohammer" can be adopted to mean anything pre-AOS.

For me it's:

1st to 8th edition = Pretty much the same thing-hammer so play whichever you (and your mates!) enjoy the most, however you like and with whichever mix of the background you enjoy.

***

As far as people now calling 8th "Oldhammer", I guess anyone could see it coming. People already just add "old" to the start of something the moment it is replaced by something newer. I remember a couple of years ago when GW changed much of the background and feel of the Necrons/Chaos Androids in modern 40k. It makes little difference to me, but the change from 3rd editions "vague creepy robots with star-god overlords - whooo!" to the newer "cartoon villain space Egyptians cranky at being woken up" led to people predictably calling them "old-crons" and "new-crons".

Regardless, it's pretty easy to tell if a post, blog or site is what you consider Oldhammer and skip those that aren't.

How'd you come up with the term "Urhammer" Galadrin?

Optimus, "ur" can be used as an adjectival prefix to show that the main word is somehow the prototype for all following versions of that thing, based (I've always thought) on the ancient city of Ur being thought of as the template for all successive cities.

I like Galadrin's suggestions; they are descriptive without being judgemental!

Oldhammer has and always will be a play on words, not quite a pun. If the people that play an edition don't get the joke they don't get to call themselves oldhammer. Simple. I will happily go around banning people from a term with my leet-hammer.

Oh damn, I knew I should have paid more attention in school

Thanks for the info Mr Rab, my brain increased in size a fraction

At least there's an "edition" in the title...some day there will be people around who don't realise there was anything before AOS... :)

The word edition has hardly ever been used to be honest mate :)

Sure most people say they are playing warhammer but the moment you start talking oldhammer you start talking about editions. Just saying 8th may leave the word edition silent but it's there.

Did someone say Necron?

There will be kids calling the Star Wars Prequels "classic" after the Disney one gets released. And I figured the wrinkles and expnding wasteline were my only aging worries ;)

What I mean is, its very rarely used as an official title of a product.
