Ind , nippon & araby inspiration!!!

Oh this is fantastic! I am aiming at the lower bar of an allied contingent list - but this is so useful. I am trying to figure out rules for flying carpets and camels, and what you've written about genies is super helpful.
A lot of it is picked up out of earlier Arabyan lore, other fan released stuff and actual Arabian myths. I've written some of it, but can't remember which is which, lol.

Yeah, but the whipping followers up into a psychotic frenzy was a little on the nose… IRL they lead from the front and act as religious leaders, so perhaps an extra leadership roll would be more appropriate?
Sorry, don’t want to knock an otherwise neat army list. 🙂

Depends on the context for Imams.. Shia have them as the second in command to the prophet himself, Sunnis have them just as the prayer leader in their mosque.. I think in Shia, most of them were killed by poison.. (the major 12) and there are different meanings of the term depending on which denomination of islam. Personally? I think Alwai, Sufi and Wahabi are kinda interesting, but Ahmadiyya is very interesting. They are a Islam denomination which believe Jesus christ was a prophet of Israel who on the cross, didn't die but fainted, and then went to India where he died at the age of 120. They believe Violence of any kind, physical or verbal, is a violation of Islam, though self-defence is allowed.

Yes, I try to steer my conception of Araby more towards the Arabian Nights rather than an Islamic reference. I'm implying a sort of law alignment but not monotheism. I know some GW lore references 'crusades' so having an allied contingent is trying to counter that idea a little.

Here are my photos from my Araby Allied Contingent for OWAC:

Sweet! A lot of characterful elements in that army! I especially like the snake charmer (and it seems like the snakes cannot place where the sound is coming from, as they are all heading in different directions).

The Shogun, on and off his Temple Dog.

I have ninja (half as skirmishers, half as +1 shock elite), Bushi samurai (+4 shock elite, hate all enemy, automatically take one wound each if they fail a rout test), several Temple Dog mounted heroes and a mass unit of pike-armed Ashigaru as the infantry core all nearly done. The whole army’s unique quality is highly skilled close combat with a fun range of weaponry.
I’m compiling an army list in 3rd Ed.
Not a fan of ‘special’ units vs using normal rules so almost entirely within the standard rules, e.g. kusarigama are a hand weapon & net for effect and cost, nunchaku is flail but counts as 2-handed and with +1 attack.
Lots of 3rd Ed rules are very Nippon specific ie sky rockets, kamikaze troops, kamikaze sky rockets, ninja torinoko grenades etc.
Skirmisher rules make for good ninja as they are less slowed by difficult terrain, tend to ranged combat and lack normal unit structure.

I’ve got a decent artillery section with Sky Rockets, and some decent archers (Bushi Samurai and Ninja skirmishers), but I like the idea of driving towards close in combat, similar to Norse, with Ronin Samurai fighting as berserkers to restore their honour by dying in battle, Bushi having to charge any enemy present, with Samurai strategies focussed on the distraction of enemy with skirmishers and monstrous units (lvl 1 dragons and a giant serve the purpose) on the frontline, Ashigaru holding the defensive line as the samurai units follow behind the forward units.

Having Bushi Samurai ‘hate’ all enemy means they have to shoot every turn they are in range, and charge any enemy in range. While they get a bonus ‘to hit’ in combat and +1 to rout tests, they are somewhat autonomous, almost impossible to hide, and prone to charging into ambushes. They also commit suicide if routed, removing any chance of recovery after a disastrous melee.

A samurai general must trust the nature of his/her troops to get them through, in a way that others do not.

That is the way of the Samurai!
