'how to do oldhammer': a second attempt

Sorry for flip-flopping but I’ve firmly settled on an army i want to do. It’s a bit generic but I’ll use the Empire army list. I’ve never actually made an army of generic humans and i think it’ll be a nice change of pace.
I also have a couple questions on the specifics: I assume we don’t have to follow the minimum regiment size right? (if we did an undead force taking zombies would have all 20 of them taken up). Also, whats the opinion on war machines, as the empire has access to cannons? I likely won’t take a cannon even if it’s an option I'm just curious.

no need to look at an army list at all. 20 bog standard examples of their species (humans in your case), split into multiple units with different equipment, if you wish, plus either a champion or level 1 wizard. thus, no war machines.
there will be special rules to try and overcome the inherent superiority, and ubiquity, of (many) rogue trader weapons.

Thanks for your patience, that clears up a lot of things.

Hi again,
Was just wondering about some of the specifics with models. It says “cheap secondhand” or currently available. Does that mean that right now they are cheap or that I myself was able to get them for cheap. I was asking because I have some minis I’ve been wanting to use for a while (some C-series fighters and a few knights of Origo). While they’re not crazy expensive they’re not the kind of thing to be able to find in bulk.

Also, what’s the feeling on kitbashing or sculpting? Would that go against the spirit of things?

sorry about the delayed response, life has been busy.
i think the best thing i can do is direct you towards the original blog post: https://theleadpile.blogspot.com/2014/01/how-do-you-start-oldhammer.html, and the subsequent thread: https://forum.oldhammer.org/threads/the-how-to-do-oldhammer-thread.1840/

Thank you for the reply, and no need to apologise, it’s not until August.
Looking through the stuff you linked things seem good. Some of my stuff so far has been items I’ve picked up off car boot sales, but a fair bit I’ve also gotten from the daemon’s lair. It’s a website where you can get Oldhammer for really good prices, but even there I’ve been mostly focussed on their broken minis section. I’ve been getting stuff there for extremely cheap and fixing them up with a bit of sculpting and modern pieces.

One last thing, the original blog post states 2 units of 10. Is this a die-hard rule? I assumed that, since we didn’t have to follow an army list, that there weren’t unit sizes you had to stick to. I’ve personally been experimenting with regiments of 6-8 with some groups of 2 or 3, but if I need to I can shuffle things around.
In terms of aesthetic I’ve ended up shifting to a more “men of the west” approach rather than the empire, where it’s a mix of medieval and renaissance figures.
