Heroquest 25th Anniversary

Looks like Heroquest is getting a revamp from Gamezone.

I was a bit sceptical on hearing the news originally on the LAF but here's the link to submit your email for more information.

Quite excited myself although I have some reservations about how old school the minis will be/ 3D Dungeon furniture sounds good though...

What do you think sirs?

I saw this.
The two sided board is interesting....so is 3D dungeon furnitue...so is a crowd funding project.
I am wondering what the add ons might be if it goes bonkers? More dungeon furniture? More heroes?
Be exciting to see how it unfolds.
Not such fan of Gamezone sculpting but interested to see what they do.

Interesting... I've never been a big fan of the look of Gamezone's minis, although I do think some of their detail sculpt is rather good (I'm often more tempted to buy bitz from them than full minis), so their furnishings could be more interesting to see than the actual characters and monsters.

Yeah, I didn't believe it for a while.

Sounds good, and if the models don't look the part, there are plenty of alternatives.

Just noticed: no fimir :(

Ah well, at least viable alternatives to fimir are being brought into existence. But I have to say, heroquest without the fimir just isn't heroquest!

Ban it! Heroquest isn't complete without Rape Lizards

Not sure if I'm excited or not with these news. I think it has 50-50 chance of either turning out to be a great game or a complete disappointment. In my opinion it's all about how they are going to change game mechanics, suitable figures and 3D furniture are easy to find these days without buying a revamp.

Hopefully they won't change the game too much, although a redesign for an older 'cult' market might benefit from changes from the original which was designed for a young audience. We've adopted using a d10 instead of a d6 for greater balance for example. If that Orc bust is a genuine example of the new figures I'll pass, I'd like it to retain something of the 80s styling rather than go for uber-slick digital monstrosities.

The more I see of this the more sure I am that I won't be buying. The art is too digital and Magic the Gathering American for my British tastebuds, the figures look a bit silly and because they've been digitally created have none of the old school charm. If this is a new release for a new generation then I can understand but it doesn't look to be aimed at the cult audience of those with childhood memories of the game. I'll wait until I see the figures and board, but based on the artwork alone I'm out.

I agree with fimm, there's a real graphic choice here but it's unfortunately not one I enjoy much, I prefer grim/spiderwebby/oldschool vibe for my dungeon bashing just like I prefer Skyrim over Fable for my video RPGs, just a matter of taste. I'm curious to see the rules, a game may change our minds...

If the rules are improved, more varied missions and such, it will always be possible to play it with the old miniatures or proxies and see this as a add on for the old game.

I don't like the new layout, but I am still interested to see where this goes.

From what is shown, except for the name of the game, I do not see anything that have an "Old School" vibe...
