• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

Wow! What a great turnout this year. Thanks to everyone who entered, it all looked glorious. This is just a formality as you have all won. Nevertheless, let the polling commence!

Please do click on the image captions to view the original submission entry for more detailed and extra photos of each entry as these summary photos hardly do justice to the greatness on display!

Thanks a bunch for making it such a cool experience for all of us. Can't wait for the next one and to see more of that oldhammer magic.

Massive inspiration boost to get more minis painted!

I think a system of giving votes for 3 entries, 5pts, 3pts and 1pt for example, would have been both easier for us (as choosing one is indeed really tough) and possibly made the competition more exciting. But then again a brutal system like this is just fine as well.
In the end ’There can only be one!’

Alas that's a bit beyond the built in polling system. I could have done several votes each, however they wouldn't transfer or have different weighting. There is a Question/Answer system built in that allows "up and down" voting of answers (posts) which I did consider briefly for voting, but I was a bit worried with too many entries they'd get a bit lost over several pages so stuck with tried and tested for now!

It can seem a touch brutal, hopefully no one takes it too much to heart. I think all the entries this year have something to offer, I think I've just about narrowed my selection down to three! I should note that if you want to you should be able to change your vote to account for appropriate bribery etc ;)

This could have been bypassed by posting votes publicly or sending them via PM or, if anonymity was to be retained, by creating three threads, one for each point category. Admittedly none of those options seems to work seamlessly. And quite possibly it would turn this whole thing more serious than it should be. Choosing one to vote and sticking with it is propably the best option.

I whole-heartedly agree. No one should take this too seriously, it’s all just in good fun. Reviewing is always subjective and the choice of miniature is likely to matter, too.

yep, and if it has inspired people to do good works, then that's good enough ^_^ I'm happy enough that I feel I've gotten good enough and feel good enough about my work to show it.

personally, voting like it is now is fine. Well.. I kinda never like polls which either show you the current totals (which this one doesn't) or lets you see the totals so you can change your vote (which this one does) cause.. I don't know, I think it kinda spoils things a bit if you can see others have alot of votes or little and that can bias your own vote.. kinda part of the human herd mentally.. don't follow that much but I know it's there.

As Gordon Burns is still around (though retired) we could try to rant them via Metal agility, Response, Observation, Physical ability, General Knowledge and intelligence? ^_^ (god does that make me feel old... they tried to do it without him.. crap all the way ¬_¬)

Awesome turnout! Great work everyone and good luck!
As for the voting, I could see the point of having multiple votes - while One Man One Vote (not the Lord Vetinari model, mind you) will no doubt provide a fairly chosen winner, it would be nice to be able to show appreciation for some of the other great entries.

What a wonderful turnout. That gallery of entries looks fantastic.

I already feel like I've won - I managed to paint a figure that had been kicking around for ages not getting painted. Happy days. It was nice to finally join in with a painting challenge as well, and I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's entries (you never know what you're going to get next). I'll defo enter the next one.

Wonderful selection great to see such a big turnout even if it did cause procratination terror deciding on who to vote for.

That's obviously totally my fault .... I can see Fimm put the 12th in the original post and somehow I totally misread it. Not sure how. I guess we should probably offer a few more days since I screwed up - 15th perhaps? I'll PM Fimm now.

Right I've PM'd Fimm since he's the boss man and just for the moment pulled the date back to the 12th Dec, but have suggested an extension to the 15 lest we have a few late voters. Sorry about that ... I shall return to my cave of shame!

No worries. I like to have a deadline before Christmas as it gives a festive feel to the award and means I can get trophies out before the holidays begin. I figure anyone who's going to vote has probably done so in the first week anyhow.
