• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

Okay I’m offering up this chap as my entry for the moment. Finished him in around July, and so not originally painted for this competition - but I do like him. Unfortunately he doesn’t photograph well. I have a couple of alternate entries that I might manage to finish before the deadline… let’s see how that pans out..

Just added my Golden Gobbo entry above.

It didn't like my old account, so I had added a new one imaginatively entitled Malacassa2.

A few more bits and pieces added to my blog: Golden Gobbo Entry

This entry is a bit younger (only 20 years old) than the previous to two entries. But I still think a great figure and hopefully the beginning of a new modernish Slann army.

Thanks Rob

Running into battle, a drunken cry which no one can never make out through the slurred speech, nor do people think he has the intelligence to put a sentence together, but in fact, he carefully picks his words for a 'deeper meaning', often a mixture of physics and sex.

Can't say I'm ever fully happy with what I do but.. I guess it's fair enough (I'll probably add a name to the base at some point though)

BBC7 - Heroic Fighters of Known World, Sir Brut. After sitting in an old Atari St game box for over 30 years, he is now ready to lead my pre 90s empire army.

Fluff factor is something along the lines of..middle son of the Von Brut family, Eastern Stirliand. Was nowhere near in line to inherit the estate so he went off and joined the knights panther (he's kept his helmet). Family estate was attacked by goblins and all were killed so he has returned to kick some gobbo butt. The shield looks slightly similar to his standard, which can be seen on here in the work in progress.

I just realized we have a Golden Gobbo 2023 going on! I better get started! I have this converted beast of Slaanesh that I have assembled ages ago, I believe now is the time to make it shine

It's Archipelagos, a sort of first person puzzle game. There is also one more St box, filled with my old original collection. That one is called Prince and, if I remember correctl, it was a very ambitious RTS wargame

Ah.. I know of "Archipelagos".. Graphic wise, very impressive. Not quite on the level with Hunter, but still it was a few years earlier then it. Prince i've heard of but that's about it.
reminds me.. I got a load of ST sports games I've still got to get rid of sometime.. nothing of too much interest but i was never into sports games really.

This mini is only a couple of years old (from a collaboration between Ian Miller and Myriad Miniatures). However, it's based on a classic piece of late '70s fantasy art and, I think, has an old school charm. Whether it's Oldhammer enough for GG2023 I'll let you guys decide. Cheers.

Very nice, I've some miniatures from that Kickstarter. Alas they are still languishing on the leadpile, partially because I can't decide on a style so it's really nice to see one painted (and painted so nicely!)

Thanks Eric. I found painting this mini a real challenge if I'm honest. It was only because I'd earmarked him for GG that I managed to push on through. The original plan had been to paint him as per the original art, but I made a complete hash of it. For the second attempt I just tried for a general Ian Miller vibe. Not the best painting I've ever done, but probably the best I can do with this particular mini with my current skill level. I would love to see what a 'pro-painter' could do with him, though, as it is a gorgeous sculpt.
