Copplestone Classics.

I have always been I massive fan of Mark Copplestone as a sculptor.
So I thought I might start a thread dedicated to his wonderful fantasy sculpts and post some of his stuff as I get it painted.

I first got aware of him when he was working for Grenadier back in the dark ages.
He sculpted this wonderful range of Barbarinans:

So I will be starting with some of these.

Painted stuff very soon.

Great range I love them, Grenadier as company is so underrated even in the Oldhammer scene :)

Don't you believe it, most of my large models are Grenadier, I also have a selection of Mr Copplestones Barbarian types acting has Thugs for my Warband. I still regret parting with my Dwarfs! :( :( :(

Wishing you well in your endeavours Harry.

@Chico
I don't know ... there is a fair bit of chaff amongst the wheat. :grin: Most of the really Goos stuff Was from Mr Copplestone ... but some of their big kits are absolute classics.

@Golgfag.
You can get the bulk of a Dwarf army for peanuts from EM4 Miniatures who are reproducing the plastics at a very good price ... and they still look good painted up. The metal is now available from Milirton.

@Giant Collector
Don't know about that.
Remembering where a few toy soldiers came from is hardly a claim to fame. :grin:

OK here are the first guys finished and based ... all such individual characters:
(My photos are a bit bright. I have killed lot of the shading in the flesh tones).

Remembering where they come from and also showing photos of a few is one thing but to be able to do so with o many different ones should be. Gc

I have enough unpainted lead to last me a life time, no need to add any more to the pile thank you very much; unless of course it was a????? 8-) 8-) 8-)

Lovely paint job Harry. You say the lighting has killed the contrast but they just look wonderfully cleanly painted to me, especially the skin tones.

I too have a fair few of these and have always thought they were the pick of the Grenadier range. What do you plan to use them for? I always thought they'd make a great plains horde in WHFB but they're a little too large for 20mm bases - in fact the one I've just painted barely fits on a 25mm square base.

Good coice of miniatures and a very nice paint job:
Brilliant work on the shield and the flesh tones are allright in the photos (so, your subtle shading is not as subtle as it looks? ;) )
That brings back fond memories.
I have seen them once painted by a guy called Alex Elpers (10+ years ago) which did a lot to cure me from my GW fanboyism.
I never managed to aquire any though-but after seeing your work and that wayback machine find I am tempted to change that.

Back when oldhammer was last-edition-hammer, a buddy of mine did an army of them and he fit most of them on 20mm based without the beveled edges. That extra bit of space was just enough for most of them.

Very nice figures and great painting. I'm still looking for some suitable Dolgan Raiders and these look like they might well do. The Dolgans are armoured, but not sure that's a huge problem.

Wow ... thanks very much fellas. Glad you like them. :grin:

Well I promise you there are a few sad gits around here who know more about old lead than I do. :grin:

Thanks.
I think all Marks stuff was the pick of the Grenadier Range ... i will be bringing you a load of stuff he did for them ... not just these guys.
For me the obvious choice is Chaos marauders of some kind. May need to give them a few tats. :grin:

Thanks very much. Yes I was chuffed with the shield.
I found his work ... very inspirational ... I had no idea it was that old. Just found the pictures on the interwebz. That paint job has aged well. He was clearly a man ahead of his time I would have said those were painted in the last couple of years had I guessed. Wow.

Again: Well done Sir.
A wonderful cloak and I like what you do with those axe blades.
Seems like the guy with the cloak has a chipped nose though.

Nice work, they tempt me to become untrue to my chaos dwarfs....
But no, couldn`t they be a lot .... shorter?
