Chaos Warband Challenge: Final Day

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I've been rushing like a maniac (even brought some during my ski vacations :geek: ) to play by the rules but I'd defintely take 2 more weeks.

Just a quick warning ahead of time but due to recent work commitments I probably won't make the closing 18th of April date. I'll try but don't see it happening. I will complete the project so as not to completely disappoint. Not throwing in the towel just yet, a miracle may happen in which case I'll post the picture off on the 18th but wanted let you all know in advance how unlikely that is.
Well I don't see any of us making it (apart from those who got a 5 man band  ). 2 more weeks would be good I have to say. Anyway, I'll just continue working like it's due for the 18th.

Even if I started right the first day of the challenge I am not too sure about getting to the finish line. I guess that is what's making this challenge... challenging
I find it hard to gage between speed and quality!

What am I saying? Sleeping is for weaks! When I grow old, do I want to look back and regret I did not mak it when I had the chance? KAPLA!

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I do not mind for an extension, meanwhile after some sleep deprivation here is my progress ;)

half orcs done, with some progress on all the troups:

And I am very satisfied about where the disk is going, it just need some more detailing and a finished base!

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Ok, seeing as no one seems to mind, we've all got an extra fortnight. Deadline is now 1st May.

Lovely work on the disc btw.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Cool, another May 1st deadline... ah well, easier to remember. That's also the release date for The Woods BTW.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Man this disk is looking good ! I will take the extended time an dput it to good use, thanks !

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Well, I just finished:
viewtopic.php?p=32105#p32105

Finished the first three orcs, that is... of six.

No progress at all past priming on the mounted champion, the eight beastmen or the remaining three of the six orcs! :?

Two weeks extension sounds good.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

All done. I am glad I got a small warband, it allowed me to take my time with each model. I might convert up a pin head warrior during the two week extension ... might. There are a few other projects that warrant my attention.

I reckon you should give the bitch some tatts Bob. The minis & pic's look good. Well done.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Impressive, I really like to the chaos goblins models and paint job are really great. I love them a lot (who makes them and what's your recipe for painting?)

I agree The chaosette could use a few tattoos but no nee to overdo it. Just a few spots to add some contrast and you clearly have a good chance . Definitely a band I could vote for.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Cheers guys.

I can't say I have any experience painting tattoos. I will have to have a few test runs before I have a go on the Chaosette.

The chaos goblins are 4a miniatures. http://www.fouraminiatures.com/page2.htm

They look unusual enough with their sea motif that I thought they would work nicely as Slaanesh devotees. That and the two headed gobbo is an excellent sculpt.

The skin recipe was khaki, flesh, grey and white base equal parts. Then build up the layers adding more white each time. Hit it with a wash of equal parts green and gryphon sepia. Once dry go over again with the original mix and give it a single highlight. All the paints are 'thin, thin, thin'. It's a variation on the grey skin tone procedure far better explained here: http://spikyratpack.blogspot.com.au/201 ... orial.html

The black is blues recipe: http://bluesmarauders.blogspot.com.au/2 ... .html#more

There's not much else to the models I am afraid. Painting the skin took a long time but was worth it.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

May I be the first to concede? =) While the orcs were enjoyable to paint, I'm not getting a buzz out of painting fantasy models right now. I simply wasn't having fun painting and as such struggled with motivation. Looking to paint some small groups of sci-fi models for Pulp Alley now, hoping that'll rekindle my waning enthusiasm for painting.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

I can understand Phreed, I've rushed on the preparation of the models to save time and now I'm taking back the old drybrush and washes recipe to get there in time but I'm not entirely satisfied by the result which is exactly what I try to avoid on my models. I want to finish this in time though. At least I'll have 18 painted models to play with even if the painting will be to a sloapy tabletop level.
I also opted for a restrictive palette to save time but the thing is it does get a bit borinig to paint the same colour teh same way over 18 models at a time.
I hope to get it all finished for the WE to have just the bases and photos to do in Monday (fingers crossed).

Then I'm back to a normal painting life

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

I must admit that i totally regret that i took this challenge , i find it ludacris to paint so many models in such a short time to a decent standard. But regret is not defeat , i have today finished the 9th model in the warband out of 14 models :o , and im not giving up so close to the goal.
I have to say next challenge has to have a longer time to get the models done or else im definatly not joining it.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

So here is a quick update, not much since the last time, but still, I managed to get a new job in the past 3 weeks, with all in might involve!
That meens less painting time on the short term but more budget for miniatures on the long term

So tonight I get these guys done, and I "negociated" with my wife a 6 hours of painting on sunday at my local store, I should get much of my chaos dwarfs done in time.
Seriously, I love this project! It will not end on May 1st for me!

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Looking good so far. Those chaos sorcerers are excellent models.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

I really like what you did with those ! Impressive job with the new job in between ! I guess it's going to be a tough one to finish in time but I'm working like a maniac to get it done 8-)

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

What if you don't finish your models . are you disqualified or do you send the group photo with the unfinished models ??

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: Deadline extended

Send in what you've done. The public can take that into account when voting.
