Chaos Warband Challenge: Final Day

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I'm developping this on th eblog but yes, the flagellants are indeed really huge compared to all the other models (redemptionists being a little smaller due to their age). You have to keep in mind my aim was to avoid buying anything. The minos are scaled to the 25mm based ones, they'd look ridiculous next to doombellow or Oxroar but they are not meant as champions ;) I just wante dto look bulkier than the rest. I've thought about a nice colour scheme to tie them with my main army.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I think It's more the Elf heads on human bodies that is throwing the perspective for me as they look too short and fat (Add Wife joke here). As for the larger Flaggys in the mixed unit you don't notice the scale too much.

You're right. As a matter of fact, I thought the same thing when I glued them but I had no other choice really (I won't buy anything for this band). These heads are actually the smallest I could find which suited my needs. I also considered sculpting conical helmets on the original heads but te face are horrible. In the background I'll count them as teenage dark elves abducted by the champion to serve as bodyguards/assassins... After that they may not make it in the main armylike the others...

Is this Hasslefree? REALLY like it.

Yep. The models called Valaska Syn.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

The size of that axe she's leaning on, coupled with her lithe build, I reckon she's just minding it until her hulking barbarian partner (Thrud?) returns from the loo.

Irrespective of the impracticality, it's still a cool mini.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

He hulking partner is a Fimir... Not all their consorts are abducted! ;)

At least, that's what I'm planning for her when I pick one up.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

Here's an update, I am a bit behind schedule but I am experimenting with colors and washes on this project, which drags me far from my usuals colors paterns.

And here is the background story for how they all got together in a warband.
My writting is rough since english is not my first language, but it tells pretty much there is to know:

Velok’s Tzeentch recruiters.

It has been over a year since the battle for Praag occurred. The victory was undisputable and exhilarating to the four Gods disciples, but not for the Retinue of Gneshok.

This once respectable light magister had turn toward The Lord of Change. Just as a mutt trying to catch a candle light, he had got to close to the illumination and lost countless fragments of his humanity. His shattered mind had become an open window through which demons could see the mortal realms. During 8 years, they directed his every action just like a puppet, until he found his place at the top of his very own Thrall wizard band.

Responding to the call of the Ruinous Powers, Gneshok led his followers to the very heart of the charge when the walls of Praag were breached. They had prepared themselves for many hours, waiting to cast a particularly strange spell elaborated by Gneshok himself. It consisted of the eight followers placed in circle, directing a flux of power toward him in the center to form a chaos star, he would then redirect the flux to the sky, summoning a storm of heated mercury to fall on the city. Only at this very moment did he realize he had been tricked. The spell was not his creation but a very demonic one, whispered in his mind by ignominious warp creatures. As he raised up in the air convulsing, an eyelid opened in his back, from his head to his heel. Three of the followers fell inanimate to the ground before transforming into flamers, while Dozens of horrors ran out through this breech before it closed.

The remaining wizards held ground around their master while supporting the attack. After the battle, Gneshok’s right arm Velok, , was able the reanimate his master. Gneshok was aware that his body was broken, but he knew a dwarf in the East mountains who could help. This Krakadrenn had a forge, where he practiced the art of combining flesh and steel. Gneshok ordered his men to gather anything of worth to be traded, such as bloodletter bones or demonette scales and hair.

On their way to the East mountains, the six wizards were ambushed by a group of half orcs. As they saw three companions melt to the ground like wax, they froze in place, reconsidering their underestimated prays. Velok then spoke their savage tongue with a clear and strong voice, telling them about the way of Change while observing the tribal symbols of their armors. These bastards were strong but quite easy to foul; he convinced them that the one eyed raven they venerated was just one figure of the Great Fiery Vulture he served himself. Velok knew that event was more than a coincidence. The Retinue of Gneshok needed a new leader and the Lord of Change had just given him the proper weapon to take control.

On their arrival at Krakadrenn’s forge, Gneshok spoke of his desire for the demonic handcraft they could provide and how he wanted his body reconstructed. Krakadrenn acknowledged to the request, containing his interest for the demon relics brought by Gneshok. The dwarf also saw Velok’s eyes, and realized that he might have more to offer than demon bits. The fact Velok led a bunch degenerated orcs with such an ease, like they were tamed dogs, also pleased Krakadrenn to the point where he felt the need to have a private talk with the sorcerer. Later that night they struck a bargain where the relics would be handed over to the dwarf as promised, plus four half orcs to be disposed at his will, in the exchange of some alteration to Gneshok demands.

The next morning, Velok’s half orcs ceased Gneshok and the other wizards to be imprisoned in Krakadrenn vaults. For two weeks, Gneshok was reforged to match Velok’s desires, gradually broken to pieces and fused to a giant shield. The dwarfs turned him into a horned disk. When the remaining followers were released and brought in front of this ignominy, they accepted Velok as their new leader, pleased even if somehow worried about the cold and twisted determination of their new champion. They helped him summon a demon inside the still breathing host that had become Gneshok to make him a proper disk of Tzeentch.

And so Velok left Krakadrenn’s forge on top of his new mount, followed by the remaining four Tzeentch disciples and four half orc bodyguards. A troop of six chaos dwarf mercenaries also joined in, appealed by the possible profit of raiding by the side of such a particular individual… and paid by Krakadrenn to deliver information about this new treacherous ally. The next step, exploring Kislev territories looking for new recruits, since to fully appreciate his new powers, Velok would need four more followers to complete the Thrall wizard band.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

Looking good there, Plaiecivile! I've been doing a lot of ground service at home the last few days so I hope I'll be able to put in a few hours with the ol' bristles and pigments this evening. I'll post an update when I do. So far I've only managed to base coat and wash the skin of three out of six orcs. :?

Anyone else started painting yet?

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I have,

- Everything preped and primed
- bases done on everyone
- Basecoat and washes for flesh on everyone

I have yet to convert a standard for my standard bearer (mine was broken) but apart from that I should have all skin and most of clothes done by the end of the WE. (pics when I can)

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I've fallen behind somewhat. I had intended to use the Bob Olley (blessed is he) beastmen from mega mini's, but the didn't seem very Tzeentch-ish. So instead I've gone for Gnolls. Three from Hasslefree and three from Otherworld, teamed up with a Ral Partha Minotaur.
Just need to get a bit of green stuff on them. (Hunchback and flamer face) then I can paint them up.

I hope to pull them off as such, as those are exactly what I'm using. =)

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I'm still trying to work out the best way of press-moulding goat faces :( Not looking too promising for the deadline at this point.

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

Shiiit people already started painting . Okay every part of my warband is ordered and being shipped I hope I can make it in time!

Re: Chaos Warband Challenge: It Begins!

I had a little time yesterday evening to get some paint on three of the orcs:
viewtopic.php?p=30074#p30074

So... three more orcs, still unpainted. Eight beastmen. One mounted champion. Will be a tight fit. If I spend one hour a day I'll make it, but that's a bit optimistic really. Spending more than one hour painting in a single day won't happen, unless I manage to send She Who Must Be Obeyed and He Who Must Be Attended off to someone for a while. =)
