Re: Chaos Squats

Brilliant colour scheme. I'm going to have to remember to go bright when/if I finally paint up my handful of 40k chaos. Another lovely set of painted miniatures, thanks for sharing.

Chaos Squats

A vat-grown war beast for my chaos squats (as predator annihilator).

That . . . tank? . . . looks familiar but I can't quite place it. Love what you've done with it. Great paint and it should be a fantastic addition to the unit!

Thanks. It’s a 90s sculpt for the Kryomek game. Still in production, which is nice. I green stuffed quite a few more gribbly bits on it to conceal the really rough join between the two halves of the model.

Of course! I haven't thought about Kryomek in a while, but I've long been tempted by a few of their vehicles. Excellent use of a nice vintage asset!

Re: Chaos Squats

that's a great vehicle and you have made it look suitably disgusting. don't think i'd have considered using it with squats, even chaos ones, but now i see it, it seems to make a certain type of sense.

Thanks!

The size of these makes them well-suited to a space dwarf scale. Although they are a bit small even for that.

The Armorcast guy’s 40k magazine, Inquisitor, used kryomek vehicles for its 2nd edition 40k squat army list.

Reading that (many years later, as an Oldhammerer) gave me the idea to find ones suitable for my chaos squats

^Holy crap! I really need to look that up. I don't know that I'd ever encountered the Inquisitor magazine before. Fabulous! (And one more reason to think about Kryomek vehicles very seriously. Or maybe a nice Ramshackle equivalent.)

When THE DERRO genegineer themselves past the point of physical COHESION, the resulting sentient GOOP is poured into the technorganic circuitry of their EXOARMORS to ANIMATE THEM. Nothing must go to waste. THE GREAT WORK must continue.

It is ABSOLUTELY like this.

___________

For my chaos squats, THE DERRO, I’ve painted these wild and wonderful sculpts by the master, Bob Olley.

“Some SENTIENT beings REJECT the GREAT WORK.
They DO NOT accept the ONE TRUE BIOMASS.
It is true, friend, IT IS!

These beings may be LIQUIFIED.
HOIST AND AIM the liquification ray!
IT is NOT A PLAGUE SPRAYER.
Those are LIES!

Liquification is DESIRABLE.
PROTEIN slurry is USEFUL.

It is ABSOLUTELY like this.”

I love all of it but strangely the thing that always sticks in my mind when I see updates is how much I like the very muted barren bases compared to the vibrant painting of the figures. It works so well for me.

I appreciate that! I like the idea of bases that ‘work’ in a large number of assumed settings and so something muted and and not overly specific seems correct
