Building a Daemonic Legion of Slaanesh

Definitely has the "brawler" look and impressive yellow painting I always have problems like others with that colour.
So, yellow is a color I mostly avoided in my earlier days painting. It was fine for details or some smaller items, but the idea of using it as a core to a color scheme was madness. It just didnt coat well. It was always ‘inky’ and you had to undercoat in white for it to look good. Even then, if you made any mistakes and got anything darker on it, you had to paint the white and then the yellow again. Thoroughly miserable.

Then ‘base’ paints became a thing. Avelorn yellow, is really just a bright ochre, but it forms a nice thick base coat, even over black primer. You can paint any yellow over it and get a nice bright shade in a single coat. It even can be left in the recesses and it makes a nice shade for whatever yellow you are using. It was this bit of chemical progress in paint that made yellow (and red incidentally) a viable color scheme choice for me.

My, at the time, very young self found enamel paints difficult to work with. I had testors for my earliest models…grenadier, ral partha, but i didnt accomplish much until i started getting acrylics. Armory i think…

This year I am continuing to (slowly) max out the daemonic portion of the Slaaneshi Legion. Here are seven more Fiends in various colors, and with assorted minor conversions. I have made an effort to keep any of them from being exactly the same, but there are only so many general variations of the original Citadel sculpts. In keeping with the Legion’s Slaves to Darkness theme, these were painted in bright and pastel colors mainly. I made one cherry red and another a deep ‘inky’ purple to mix it up though.

I didn't realise some fiends wore boots. Wonderful!

So, there were four different sets of pairs of Fiend legs. One of those pairs has a single boot. I collected many fiends in various states of decay, and ended up with several incompletes, or incomplete if you disregard ruined parts. As a result, I clipped several boots to make the cherry red cutie with a taste for couture. There are a few other in the collection with one or two boots, but she is the only one with all boot.

Yes. They rely on the same little plug socket that is on the body pieces. However, the plug and socket joint don’t align correctly. If you follow it, you get a fiend that looks like a dead spider with the legs curled beneath it. So, to model them properly, you need to align the legs with the plug, but not actually use it.

I cut their feet off the tabs before i glue them to their bases. I use pieces of the tabs to reinforce the hip joints, otherwise they are very weak and unstable.

So, that last batch of Fiends has brought my legion to its maximum allowance of little scuttling friends. Here they are all ready for action. Twenty four Fiends, ready to take on anything that displeases the pleasure god.
