Axiom's Workbench - WIP stuff

After several consecutive Blood Bowl teams I wanted to give myself a change. I haven't seen many Bratt gangs around the place, so I hope to paint and in some cases convert up a Bratt gang which I intend to use for numerous different settings (Confrontation, Necromunda, Inq28 etc). I've got some plans for some nice conversions, but I also want to try and do justice to some of the limited edition and unreleased Bratts I've got in my collection.

So, here's some of the base material:

The eagle-eyed of you will notice the LE2 Bratt (undercoated) and hiding at the rear, one of the unreleased Bratts.

Having enjoyed painting up my Skaven Blood Bowl team in orange with jade green as a spot colour, I thought I'd reverse the colour scheme, and here's the first painted model (an LE1 Bratt):

He still needs basing, but I'm pretty happy with the way the colours came together.

What do you think? All comments welcome :)

I like it - there is something so retro sci-fi about orange and white and jade/turquoise works too.

WOW, Excellent !

You're starting a project I would love to start as well. I'm actually tryingto build a campaign with a mix of roleplay and confrontaion for the skirmish part and why not add some INquisitor too... Unfortunately not enough models at the moment (If you ghave any spares I'm your man)...

Anyway, it's a really effective colour scheme you've chosen and the painted mini has a pure "hip" vibe. The mini is very clear and easy to read which is the most important thing to me for skirmish miniatures. Do you consider painting their hair in a outrageously coloured fashion with makeup like on some artwork or will you stay with just their particular haircuts?

Thumps up

Orange & white is one of my favourite colour combinations, hadn't really made the retro connection, but you're right!

As for outlandish hair, my thinking was to go for white on them all & to keep the colour palette restrained. I may see how a lurid pink works. Face make-up however IS something I want to try. Not quite sure how to go about it though.

Always wanted a Bratt gang since seeing one in an old Golden Demon entry - sitting on a space marine bike smoking a pipe 8-)

Do you remember the year / category? I'd be interested to check it out. I remember a single mini entry from c1991 with a distinctive orange scheme.

Sounds like it might be that one as it was around that time - I'll have a dig through my old WD's...

Awesome gang idea there :) you do not see many Brat gangs about. Loving the skin it looks a bit orange just like a spray tan 80s throwback and the hair sets him off nice.

I remember that golden demon pic now he is cool.. and I just happen to have received a spare of him in the post today.. I feel a conversion coming on..

That is awesome! And just when I start to think I'm almost as good as the best painters of 20 years ago, I see this!

You're not looking hard enough

There's a cracking Golden Demon reference site - worth browsing:

http://demonwinner.free.fr/

Thanks for the lead info.

That's the bunny!

Afraid I had two dogs making it very clear they wanted their walk so the WD issue number was about as good as you were going to get!

Cheers for the link - I've seen the site before but had completely forgotten about it.

Interestingly, the one I recall was by the same painter, but the year before the mounted version:

I guess he quite liked the figure ;)

sculpted by Jes Goodwin+big hair+cyberpunk+rogue trader, come on, everybody must love this!

That said, I really like the limited though colourful palette and the details such as the non-dyed roots on the hair.

Re: Brattish Behaviour - my Bratt gang project

Whilst I'm waiting for some components to arm some of the gang, I decided to make a start on converting up another Bratt. I've always thought that this old Bounty Hunter was a wannabe Bratt:

BountyBrattWIP_zps3117f918.jpg

So far he's had a repair to a flattened nose, his Bermuda shorts replaced with longer Bratt trousers and the all important quilted jacket. I'll add in a few extra bits and pieces, like the little holster ties above the knees, but he's starting to tie in better with the other Bratts I think.

Re: Brattish Behaviour - my Bratt gang project

I was eyeing your Bratts with envy and was thinking I might have one...but its the bounty hunter you are modding to become a Bratt that I have (or had). That's some good putty work...his quilted jacket looks perfect...

I managed to get a bit more work done on the Bratts over the last couple of evenings.

Bounty Bratt has just had a jewel and the start of holster leg ties added. I also filled the empty holster with a new gun. He's waiting on some arms to arrive and I'll probably add some small bows to his holster ties:

Second up is a much more extensive conversion; I recently was given a copy of the original Confrontation rules, which included some fabulous concept sketches by Jes Goodwin. This figure is intended to be a homage to my favourite of the sketches:

As you can see, he's not an exact match, but close enough to see the inspiration. This figure is currently at 'chop' stage - all the major cutting and pinning has been done, with repair work and sculpting (including a nice new hair-do) next. 10 Bratt points to anyone who can name the component figures!

The torso is a harlequin, right? Now where'd those fine buckled trews come from?
