Assorted Minis

So inbetween working on my Goffs and Squats, I figured Id make a thread for everything else that gets in the way

This first miniature is one that I used to "lust" after when I first got into WH40K, soaking up the gallery section in the 2nd ed rulebook.

Please excuse the modern backpack, but here he is

Great work on the classic 90s red and green styling. You even have the bases right... This was how mine were painted back in the day.

The plastic guy was a freebie on the white dwarf and also came as a box of 5.. although I got loads from friends who did not play chaos for free :)

Tip of the hat to Chico for supplying me with this chap

AAAh the demonic ass marine ! (if you don't know why, just look at then end of this post) ;)

Back on track, just like for your orks, these marines are really capturing the oldschool look and you've achieved a very good union on such different models, can't wait to see the rest.

Thanks one and all, this one isn't exactly oldhammer and Im not entirely happy with him but yeah

I got the heroquest witch king pack as a wee 9 year old, here are what remains of those minis-and these were probably the first minis I ever painted (with help from my older brother)

I still had some fimir, skellies and mummies that I decorated the soil of a big pot plant with until I stepped on them blind drunk in 2006

Nothing like a good Bob Olley patriarch !

- oldschool models : check
- purple and blue just how I like them : check
- goblin green bases : check
- breath smelling close up photo : check (actually got me to see details I had never seen before)

That's the kind of eye candy that fuels me up (and want to lurk on ebay actually). Thanls Bruno

Nice to see some alien goodness here.
I really like this old patriarch mini, and with those goblin green bases, you have a really old school look.

Cheers guys,

I very nearly did do something else for their bases, but in the end I went with my usual camo/goblin green because
a) GW's had green bases
b) all my other stuff is based that way
c) Im lazy

I also contemplated leaving them black...

Id forgotten how quick and painless Genestealers are to paint

Quick and painless???? If it was quick, mine wouldn't be paintless. I find Genestealers to be one of the hardest things in the world to paint. I must be doing it wrong?

Guess it depends how many bits you paint pink! I certainly found my 1st ed Space Hulk Stealers quicker and considerably more fun than the horrible plastic termies!

My recipe is:
*Regal blue for the carapace, highlighted with ultramarine blue
*Tentacle Pink for flesh, then leviathan purple wash
*Bleached bone for claws and teeth, gryphonne sepia wash

The purple wash really hides any inconsistencies with the pink!

I busted out Space Crusade last weekend, and only having the Ultras painted didn't sit right-so Ive been painting these guys up this week ( I had lots of spare SC marines, so why not?)

Still a bit to go yet, it annoys me that the Wolves were my first and for many years only army yet I still cant paint them very well

Also, Id forgotten or never realised how hard it is to kill anything in Space Crusade unless you are in close combat!
