Another distraction

So been struggling for motivation to get on with any of my big projects (Skaven, Squats, Eldar, Orc n Goblins or dwarfs). The Free mini Friday challenged was a fun little project and I really liked using cork for the base and really wanted to do something with it again. When I was looking for a mini to send for the Free Mini Friday I came across a very old project I started years ago. Basically it was another conversion of the Gimli on pony I used for my bridge diorama. I found the pony but couldn't find the rider I had started to convert but luckily had another spare. So decided this would be ideal for a nice cork base and here we are !

So for those who haven't seen my first mock up from my question regarding snow here you go.

Started painting the base this evening.

Vision is a snowy rock face with stoic dwarf on pony. The next step will be to convert Gimli. Also ordered some snow so hopefully it looks good and I can get that added to the base.

Echoes of a Bonner artwork come to mind...can't wait🤩

So a quick mock up before work. Started work on the rider but have realised I'm missing one half of my Tamiya Putty so had to order some more!

My new Green Stuff World Snow Textures turned up and got straight on to adding it to the base. Works really well and ends up looking like a slightly sludgy old snow look.

I think for the price under £4 it works really well and I'm guessing you could add the snow powder on top when wet to create a more just snowed look.

Coming together nicely. I really like the freehand on the pony's saddle pad. I find I personally always forget I don't have to "paint within the numbers" when doing models and can add my own details. So it's lovely seeing other people do it, hopefully one day it'll sink in and I'll brave going off piste myself!

Another up date.
I love the casual caption and bamn there is a painted model :)
Liking the tone of the red you've got and the shield looks great. Any thought on if you'll add any snow to the pony's feet or anything like that to further tie it into the ground?

Not completely painted. Needs lots of fine tuning before I will be happy. As for snow I'll be adding some around feet but debating whether I will add small amounts to the actual rider ? I do like the idea of him being a stoic dwarf standing guard on some mountain pass which would necessitate a level of snow settling on him.

I've mentioned before but I highlight red with brown so I don't end up with a pink tone. So for this figure I used Vallejo Game Color Parasite brown which is a nice brown/orange colour.
