Legacy Crew 2025 - Market Day
What? not a glass bottom tankard? (oh and by the way, why do people keep saying that rubbish myth about 'Oh, the glass bottom was to stop the navy press gangs' cause.. they didn't give a damn. If they wanted you, they would force you anyway

Exactly.
I suspect the rumour was started by a dude with a million spare glass discs to try and shift.
I think I've also seen it as a way to overcharge for old tankards.. claim this mythical back story to make them seam like rare important things and part of history to such a degree you WANT to pay more for it...

My old man has one from his army days. The story behind the glass bottom, apparently, is that you have a chance to notice that the recruiting sergeant has slipped you the King's shilling.

that is the crap completely wrong myth. The press gangs didn't care. They could just claim you took it or, more often, they got you drunk and knocked you out as you left the pub.

It's a story that the more you look at it, the more and more problems you see which show how it makes no sense at all.

The best Glass bottom ones are the Gamblers Tankards.. they have two slices of glass with a few dice in the bottom. you get a drink and then use it to roll dice.. Not sure how well they roll but they do roll inside the glass area.
