Michaels 25mm WFB Stuff...

A sight to behold for sure! For one year's tally I'd say you did an excellent job and shouldn't be kicking yourself for "not achieving more".
Wholeheartedly seconding what Eric and chrisgoodone said; you should definitely be proud of yourself!

Now, just one thing to ask... What on earth is that thing nonchalantly crouching besides fences, doing its utmost to blend in with the villagers? A werewolf? Troll?

Ah-ha.

It is a model from Alternative Armies I converted into a werewolf.

The original has a flat faced giant open nostril mush, a bit like Skeletor or a piggy, I was not aware at the time and thought it had a sort of dog nose, alas not. But some greenstuff made it more wolfy.

It will be to do with the Pertwee Farmhouse.

I had a faint memory of reading bit of a teaser you wrote about that and sure enough: On p. 18 of this thread it was.
Cool tidbit of lore, kinda-sorta like a good old fashioned whodunnit... without that obvious butler to blame. Even though it sounds very much like either Johannes or his wife is guilty, my money's on Uli; hairy by nature and, being a dwarf, possibly having a Napoleon complex. Turning into a 3m tall werewolf, doing some barking at the moon and a bit of slaughtering of peeps and cattle would do wonders for such complex, one would think.

Very nice conversion btw! Simple but effective - looks much less like a giant bat sans wings and more like a werewolf now.

I have a favour to ask, to those that have been following my Heiligsheld project I want to get your feedback on my map.
Not the quality as this is a draft, I just want to check that where I have placed things makes sense with what is already ‘official’.

So the setting on my website/blog and the game reports.
Hopefully nothing is in a place that contradicts what I have written and hopefully nothing has been missed.

Need to read through your stuff to really check it but my first thought is just the Counts manor being THAT far from the settlement? Not completely out of it but would have thought some settlement would build up around the rich counts manor but without knowing the scale, not sure.. also it probably is how you have it in fiction with such a distance ^_^

Thanks, whilst you may or may not be right about the manor, it did make me double check some stuff and I have re-jigged the map as one thing was in entirely the wrong place.

Upon further reading of what I have 'published' online. I have made some changes, Fraulein Pfiezel's cottage was in entirely the wrong place.

In my story "Scrotter Brokenstaff" we see Johannes the farmer going from his farm to her cottage via the Toll Booth, as the map stands above this is impossible.

I have moved the Toll Booth closer to the village and put the cottage past the Toll Booth up near where the Toll booth was originally drawn.
The toll booth is about a mile out of the village which means the distances described to reach the cottage are now inline with the fluff around the cottage.

The counts manor may need to be moved closer as noted by the ManicMan.

I have also moved the Pertwee farm a bit closer too.

A few questions arising from your map and geography lessons decades ago:
1) Are the hills wooded too? If not, what happened to all the trees?
2) Is the river navigable? If so, are tolls levied on river traffic? If so, how are they collected?
3) Why is there such a large garrison of state(?) troops for such a little place?
4) Isn't a count a tad high ranking to be inhabiting a simple manor?
5) Is the manor fortified? Does it have its own small garrison loyal to the count?
6) Why is it there? To protect the trade route and collect tolls? As someone to simply live and lord it over the peasants?

1: Undecided.

2: Not by anything of real value, it is possible to get a small skiff/barge up and down it, but given the location there is no real traffic, except for the occasional sending downstream of timber the local woodsmen fell. Certainly not worth any commercial enterprise being interested in.

3: I am not sure the garrison is that large? 35 troops. But also there are 2 other nearby settlements the Count is responsible for, they cover that at a push.

4: Possibly, but my 3rd edition army has a level 20 hero as the general and that is called a Count. It does seem a grand title for such a small village but then when was 3rd ever consistent?

5: Yes it is a fortified structure, but nothing more than a walled building or two with thick walls. The 35 men are the Counts own troops.

6: The village used to be bigger and more prosperous, it has seen gradual decline over the last few hundred years, a variety of reasons, regular bandit attacks, greenskin raids from the mountains, numerous outbreaks of plague, the creeping influence of nearby Sylvania, possibly also as the village is no longer noted on any up to date Imperial maps may even be a factor, it has seen its hey day and is certainly slipping away into memory.

The Halven family have been in residence for Countless generations, as noted it was a more prosperous area a long time ago, the family clings onto its title and estate.

Oh I can see some local minor inflating his ego, also depending on how the Empire works (tricky) Count is a heid.. hiedar... Passed down title. Could easily have been much grander in the past. Of course, for some stupid reason I never figured out, the UK got rid of the term Count and replaced it with Earl... and yet females use Countess still.. and we still have the Count's lands being a county... confusing..
