Yes, it´s complicated to get the motivations, on the other hand sometimes it´s pretty difficult to found the right moment to play whith my friends, you know, work, family...I try but it can be tricky to get the motivation at times.
That said I do have a number of Solo games and systems and do kinda enjoy it.
I was thinking about playing Hordes of the things or Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames.I enjoy solo games if they are very restricted in scope and scenery/figure requirements. A solo RPG can be great, kind of like reading a novel but they take some concentration so not easy if there are other people around or while trying to do something else.
Solo figure gaming is less rewarding, I will happily play solo sessions of a dungeon crawl like Mantic's excellent Dungeon Saga (the original version) or WANTED: Reward 10000K, both need few figures and limited scenery on a small table. But I find battle sized games an unrewarding chore to try and play out solo.
That's something I've found, actually setting aside the time to properly do a solo game and avoiding other distractions (be they people or jobs) is quite the task in itself! Still I used to quite like the solo Advanced HeroQuest rules and there are gems like Dungeonquest and Chainsaw Warrior which work well. Every now and then I'm tempted to grab an old Lone Wolf or Fighting Fantasy game book off the shelf and give things a whirl.I enjoy solo games if they are very restricted in scope and scenery/figure requirements. Just curious ; does any of you play solo?
I was toying whith the idea for long time , but never did it, it seemms to be some kind of "mental barrier" there...I have lots of solo rulesets. I like the idea. Just have never used any of them!
