2nd or 3rd

if you aren't social, or have problems with people, society loves to only give you insulting nicknames. You kinda have to get use it to ^_^ like how the USA thinks insulting terms like (sorry about this) among others are perfectly acceptable terms for anyone you don't like ... we are mostly better in the UK but not really.. I've seen some kids wearing T-shirts with some of them terms ¬_¬;

But oh well. Like I said, you kinda have to get used to things.

“unwashed maladjusted types”
Oh, I don't label ppl, and I myself was maladjusted (but still washed and brut 33'd) as a teen. I didn't give two cahoots when I was younger as we played with all sorts, nor do I now. I also see neurotypical ways and views being issues for the neurodivergent. However, I recognise what s'poet is saying at gaming stores and also meta types. My beef is an experience of two particular individuals, twenty yearoldsomethings, lacking in any personal hygiene, who came into the Warhammer store open day and, we think (including the staff and about ten teens in there) purposefully cleared it! 😂 It was a particularly hot and airless day.

But oh well. Like I said, you kinda have to get used to things.
Well, no one has to get used to it, call it out when you can! One of my kids is, and some members of family are, neurodivergent. I see & know ppl (can even recognise traits in them!) who are absolute shitheads with disparaging remarks and attitudes. The world today is the best and worst of places.

My daughter has been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD and more, she was also born without a sense of smell. Zero smelling ability.
As responsible parents we tell her to shower when she smells.
We also have to teach her about food going off, toxic fumes from day to day stuff, etc

If someone like her who is socially awkward due to her conditions as well as being born with no sense of smell can manage to keep clean (ish) then I have little sympathy for others that stink, especially adults who have had plenty of time to learn.

Reasons are not always excuses.

Bit of a balancing act describing folks! Feel sorry for the staff who need to grin and bare it. 😉 (am sure/hope they get some training on how to best handle such customers tho).
You would think on training. I had to listen to my son and his mate (a licensed pokemon tgc retailer, etc independant gaming store owner) discussing the 'hygiene issue' last night. A protracted discussion as they'd visited another store which has a perpetual ongoing issue with 'smell', worse during game nights, and no one knows how to broach it or deal with the individuals. I innocently asked if it was just the carpets? They laughed...and then said everyone refuses to use the loos that night as well. 🤢

and no one knows how to broach it or deal with the individuals

"We have had one of our visits from the leaseholder and they made reference to the odour of the shop. Taking this into consideration along with some feedback from other store regulars we are implementing a store policy around health and safety. Visitors to the shop should try to ensure that their own hygiene is deemed acceptable. If you have any questions around this please do not worry about asking. Visitors found to be failing to meet the required standards for hygiene will be discreetly notified. Repeated failures to adhere to this will result in banning from the premisses.

Problem is I'm very much of the view that words don't hurt, it's the feelings behind them. To quote Star trek episode :the Savage Curtain:
Fake Lincoln "What a charming Negress. Oh, forgive me, my dear. I know that in my time some used that term as a description of property."
Uhura: "But why should I object to that term, sir? You see, in our century we've learned not to fear words."
There are times people say a word meaning it to be harmful, there are times when they don't mean it they are either joking around or don't know the right way to say things. People need to learn but what is acceptable and 'fine' at one time, will become socially unacceptable in another and you shouldn't forget the intend. Do I look at old looney tunes and say 'Look how they are treating people, that's unacceptable! Ban them and edit them to death".. nope.. take it in context. It can be hard at times, but fair enough ^_^

also... erm.. I think this is getting a bit too far off topic and kinda heavy ^_^; Not saying it's not worth saying stuff but.. yikes.. when I think something is getting de-railed too much, is that saying something?

Hmm, should I suggest that text in a speech bubble 🗯️ coming from the nurgle pokemon? 🤣

“unwashed maladjusted types” tend to be attracted to niche/nerd hobby cultures. I think I could possibly have been categorised as such when I was younger… Fortunately people can change and perhaps we should be less inclined to dismiss socially awkward people is such dismissive terms?
Sorry. That's my fault. There's one specific person I'm thinking of, and there were honestly much worse things about him than that. (Cheating on his fiance and bragging about it, for instance.) I don't mean to criticize every awkward kid, just the ones who rudely stand by the door trying to keep the newbs out. I chose my words poorly. These things might be true, but they're not really what made him a problem. And maybe he's changed, but it doesn't make his behavior then acceptable. Anyway, game stuff . . .
