My Random stuff

I really feel I need to say sorry cause I didn't notice until I was half way through painting bits, that I missed some mold lines.. which is a real shame with how good these models are but oh well..

PlagueBearers.jpg
A.. erm.. unit? of 6 Plague demons from @beQuestminiatures beQuest miniatures Chaotic Realms KS. I kinda wanted to fade the colours on the swords more but.. decided I wasn't gonna be able to do what I wanted well enough (I did try a couple of tests) so I kinda just left it at banding. While many classic plague dæmon had other colours then green, I kinda wanted to stick to green with a brighter accent colour for the.. erm.. guts.
Technically, no two have the same green as basically used 3 different base greens with 3 different washes over them so even two with the same base green don't have the same shading to them. then mixed up some of the secondaries for the guts mostly pink, purple and red. Though I tried to do one yellow with a green wash.. can't say it's 100% successful. Anyway, there were three different sculpts for these.
I debated the bases for a while, then used some kinda spare ones for a test and kinda ended up with a 'green slime/water' with sculpted bits of brownly land with a couple of brown tuffs.

Looking at the image.. I think I didn't varnish these yet as a couple bits look like I need to touch them up.. oh well.. this is what they look like before final touch ups then ^_^

Cool. Nice to see them in the err rancid flesh. I could do with a few more Plague Bearers so maybe these if they are in production rather than more duplicates of those I already have?

okay.. I'm both happy and not happy with this..

My attempt at doing a 38mm figure from scratch. Now.. you can see the odd kinda yellow bits where I didn't remove the bit in the middle / mixfully enough the putty. Also a couple of shades of green where the batches weren't mixed 100% the same, but that's fine. I know for a fact the hands came out too big, even bigger then they should be, but took that as acceptable. I think for the most part, her kimono came out well (hard to tell in the green but she is dressed Left over Right.. and this is a HUGE Mistake. You see, Left over Right is how you should wrap a Kimono, Yukata or such like clothing. she is meant to be dressed Right over left because she is dead. Right over left is something you should never dress it as because it's seen a very bad luck since this is how a corpse is dressed. Problem is, While I knew this and tried to get that detail right, I forgot the fact that I was looking at the model with it facing me, so it's Right was my left. stupid me.

At first, the ropes around her wrists (well, attached to the arms) were just kinda tubes cause I wasn't sure I could get rope right, but.. well, atleast one of them turned out really well, the other not too bad. Technically she is meant to have some around her neck but too much was going on for how little of it you would see (same for her legs. The pose is based on a bit of concept art pose. I think the lips turned out a bit iffy and the nose looks a bit like it got a bit flattened at some point (though I did wait for it to cure before I did the hair).

I did up a mould to do a cast knowing that the model isn't the best design for casting how I was gonna do it cause the ropes looked a bit iffy but mostly it was the sleeves and leg area. but oh well. Made a silicone mould (one part, which I then cut. a couple of small bit didn't seam to mould right but expected. Then drop cast it.

Kirie_CastPaint.jpg

It cast much better then expected. in fact, the ropes came out fine. there was a couple of minor issues with the extended arm due to not being able to get the chalk powder in right, and part of her sleeve on the left arm at the front didn't come out (the mould got a bit damaged). Problem is, this character is a ghost who is meant to be just shades of grey. That's a pain to paint and I think the back wash came out too thick on her hand and between body and left arm.. I'll probebly cast up a couple more anyway.

I haven't finished the base cause I want wooden floorboards and I'm to remember/figure out the best way, but all in all, I'm not too unhappy with it. I think the paint job isn't doing it any favours but it's not the worse in the world. The paint on the hair is too flat but like I said, I want to cast up a couple more.. maybe try to repair that sleeve.

From bottom of her feet, to the top of her head is 32mm.

She is Kirie Himuro from the PS2 game 'Fatal Frame' ("Zero" or "Project Zero") and here is a picture of her in-game model from one of the guide books.. but she is also dressed the wrong side for some reason.. though the image hasn't been flipped (she normally wears her hair parting mostly to the left side of her face so that way I can tell it's not flipped).

Still.. I think not bad practice, even with water, I have a pain trying to get green stuff smoothed out really well so for the Kimono I did try something new. Basically rolling piece really flat (kinda) onto a plastic food bag and waiting a few hours for it to kinda mostly set, but still have enough play to basically wrap it like the real thing but still able to add bits and smooth them in a bit (when I say I have a problem getting it smoothed out, it's more large areas being smooth. small bits aren't TOO bad.

If the don't know the games... well, a minor bit of intro on my blog when I talked about a fan made card game but.. the lore and story for the games is really good I find and I'm a bit fan of the series ^_^

Nice effort!

Only very limited experience of sculpting with GS and even then curse my fat fingers trying to manipulate it! Sure more knowledgeable sculptors on here can offer more feedback.

Agreed, I think your sculpting is improving. The shape and the clothing both look good. Keep at it, it's great seeing the progress.

Thanks ^_^ I don't think I'm ever gonna be a 'great' but competent would be nice.

which Nivea as they do soo much these days... I normally use water.

I've just got a small tin of the classic old school cream. It's a little round blue tin.

There was a chap on YouTube who compared using nothing, water and Nivea when working with green stuff and the Nivea came out top. Whilst he didn't test it in the video, he was saying that Nivea didn't seem to affect paint adhesion later, unlike petroleum jelly. I've only limited experience but Nivea worked really well for me and didn't seem to affect painting.
You only need a tiny little bit, so the tin will last for ages.

Have you tried Nivea as a GS lubricant? I find it works really well

I assume this is to keep your tools (and maybe fingers) from sticking to the green stuff? Might have to try that. I've always just used water. Nivea is a kind of skin cream, right? Do you just put a little on your fingers and then maybe a touch on the tools as appropriate?

Okay, not the best photo (I really need to take some more photos.. but I don't have some space to take some better ones... but anyway..

First finished lot for my 2026 TWitWs warband: 4 Captives

Captives.jpgI technically only need 2 for my current warband list but it always helps to have spare people who's only job in life is to be dragged around and killed. For some reason, as I was trying to figure out the basing for this war band, I've ended up with heavy brush. So it's a dirt base with a few different type and lengths of grass tuffs with a bit of an unkempt area. I was trying to go for slightly mashie like plains and.. well, It's kinda right if I look at some of the local ones. I didn't really want to do too much water on them bases, atleast one these ones due to lack of space, but I might have some puddles on the main figures.

Anyway, the first three (guy on his knees, Guy with bag over head and girl with bag over head) are Midlam captives from there town villager range which they recently expanded. The fourth is a customised Oathman Elf infantry. Hard to see in this image, but the adjustment to his neck so he looks down really gives the look of a guy who is very unhappy to be in this situation. Didn't turn out as well as I wanted but not bad. Game wise, captives can be dragged around and sacrificed when needed. Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die.

I wanted to do a bit more variety but captives aren't common figures to find, and limited species to pick from. not that I'm not trying to do up some more and maybe make some from scratch.

really crap images but even on macro, the camera did NOT like to focus on this and when it claimed it was focused, it still wasn't ¬_¬This was a guys head I sculpted for the base of another miniature and even though you cant tell in this fuzzy shot... He looks NOTHING like the guy I was trying to go for ^_^
Head.jpg
The paint is almost done to finish the mini off so maybe tomorrow or Wednesday I'll show the final thing but.. the mouth is meant to be slightly open (there is a reason it's a decapitated head), but that didn't turn out great.. you can kinda see it on the side view. I think I'm getting better with the nose, but it's still a bit flat and I kinda tried two things to get some visible ears but neither worked, so they are VERY understated to the point that you can pretty much say the hair is covering them. for size.. I think the size isn't too bad.. maybe a tiny bit big but.. well, that's a cheap cocktail stick. It's good enough for what I did it for. Laying in a damp car park.... I wonder how many people can say "I know his name" (yeah.. subtle, eh?)
