regular player of WFB 3rd edition?
Got to say this is pretty par for the course. As the various editions have good and bad - the first couple of edition were great for random stuff and generally throwing anything into the mix, third edition just becomes too clunky if your playing big games (2000points plus), but great for skirmish ( less than 1000 points), fourth and fifth are hero delivery systems, anything after were not developed for story based games, but are great, for what they are, my opinion for what it's worth, which is nothing.Well kind of play it once or twice a year…but its usually some bastardised hybrid that takes bits from many editions and armybooks (often mid army list design) to meet our gameplay needs.
I kinda know what you mean, but I reckon I have forced 8th edition to work for story games through the campaign, and boy, some stories have happened. But yeah, played with only official army lists and rules, by tournament style players, there would be no story. Played as part of a GM'd campaign, however, and 8th ed' can be story crazy.... fourth and fifth are hero delivery systems, anything after were not developed for story based games ...
