Not a progression update in terms of painted models, but I have been working on my camera, trying different settings and I'm sure you'll agree that this shot is an improvement

Yes! It surely is an improvement - noticeable in the previous update as well. Just shows what a little fiddling can do

Great looking minis too ;)

Alright, here we go! I was on a painting roll so couldn't stop to take pictures until now! All 10 are now completed!

This one the lads call the 'Butcher' - he is fond of chopping up his enemies with his big cleaver......

For the bases I will look at Artic Tundra as a reference.

I will re photograph the earlier models once I have finished the bases off.

I hope you like the models!

That last warrior is a classic amongst classics ! The black armour is absolutely great. I really cannot wait to see the first unit all based. I have to say the unit is looking really nice as a group despite all the models having so much character. It will truly be an army of beauty.

Merci beaucoup!

They were an absolute joy to paint, as you said, each model was sculpted with lots of character, which gives them a real presence on the battlefield.

Elric I enjoyed the most, the sculpt is beautiful! The black armour was painted by base coating the model in a mid grey, then applying 2 thin coats of Steel. Next 2 washes of Lime Green were applied, followed by 4 washes of Nuln Oil and then the recesses and shadowed areas were filled in with Black Ink, giving the look of a faintly tinted and burnished set of plate mail.

So, the unit is now finished and all based!

I tried a few different base options, such as an Artic Tundra, a Snow scape.... but they just didn't sit well with the models. The look I went for in the end was a Volcanic Rock landscape, inspiration was drawn from this image:

I added a few small details to the base, such as the obligatory skulls, some oversized brightly coloured snails and a venomous looking flower to add some flavour to the blackish bases.

I hope you enjoyed the progression of the unit and keep an eye out soon for the next unit in the Army  ;)

The bases look great and compliment the figures perfectly. How did you construct and paint them?

Thank you! As I mentioned above, the first two ideas I had just somehow look wrong and the blackish volcanic rock seemed perfect as it lifts the colours on the model and fits in with the theme of a Chaos army marching out of the desolate wastes to invade southwards.

You can see from the WIP progression that I used a polyfiller and applied this to the bases with a small plastic filling 'knife' which gives you a nice uneven surface. I then gathered some small stones from the woods behind my house and glued these to the bases.

First step was to base coat in a mid tone grey (I used Foundry Slate Grey 32B)
Second step was to apply a thinned coat of Chrome (71064) from Vallejo's Model Air Metallic range.
Third step was to apply 4 consecutive washes of Citadels Nuln Oil
Fourth and final step was to then fill in the recesses and shadows in Vallejo's Black (72.094) Game Ink

The consecutive black washes over the Chrome base really help to give the effect I wanted in the photo I found.

Cheers
