What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniature?

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I paid £750 for a complete citadel giant in mint condition.

I then paid a smidge under £250 for a 2nd one (missing all of it's extra parts) about 2 weeks later.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I'm quite chuffed my most expensive model ever has been a... snotling!

Big Snot in his barrel, paid the princely sum of £32 for him, but to complete my Goblinoids set it was worth it! Now I still haven't got round to painting them...

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

One doesnt buy models, one makes models. Having said that I just paid for Bob Olley to make me post-apoc dwarf biker, so that is the most expensive model I have bought.

When I did buy models, I used to hunt for bargains. Quantity has always been a factor for me. I did splurge one time, when I got my first grant. I ordered a whole load of the figures from the GW catalog, loads I had always wanted. Usually though I went for plastic boxed set, the best I ever did was a 20 odd strong unit of ogres from hero quest expansion. They were £3 for 7 I think....

Though I guess I could weigh in the big lump of molten lead that would end up in the foundations for a fair amount of cash..

It would be like the elephant's foot under the Chernobyl reactor.

As for prices I've paid, I think the most for a single figure was £20 or so. Sometimes you have to accept that that thing you want is going to cost a little more than a couple of quid.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I'm a cheapskate so the I like to spend between £1-2 for a mini 2nd hand(not inc postage) I think the most I've spent is either for my Squats or my citadel Judge Dredd and max then is still under £10.

Most I've spent new on a single 28mm figure is the last few years is a 3 LE Fishmen at £8 each.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I bought armorcast titans

Besides that I think the most expensive I paid was £50. I guess I felt rich and really wanted the mini.

But if you look at current prices of GW or Privateer Press. Ugh, that is expensive I think.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

Where are you guys finding all these cheap minis? Yes, bulk lots full of dross average at £1.50 per figure, but buying a specific individual figure for less than £4 is nigh on impossible :) (possibly, as others have said, there is a difference in RT v fantasy).

But I'd rather buy a nice classic metal figure at £4 than a modern plastic figure (often not too different in price).

By patiently waiting and loosing a hell of a lot more auctions than I win. And then patiently waiting for trades to appear here and on LAF. There does definitely seem to be a difference between RT and Fantasy though. Except for Orks and Eldar which seem to appear quite cheaply regularly. Except for that last feckin Ork that I want. But I shall wait patiently.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I only buy on eBay and I set myself the limit of £5 per model, but it's getting harder to stick to that. There are so many more bidders these days for even relatively common models. Thankfully I have most of the models I really need for all my current, on going projects.

I'm willing to pay quite a bit more for the nurgle warrior with the nurgling on his back, I rarely see it and really want it, but I suspect I'd have to shell out about £50 to scratch that itch. My most extravagant purchase was £60 odd for a spined dragon, but that was definitely worth it.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

$10-12 once or twice for an infantry sized model.

I just sent $20 on the last c-23 ogre I needed. that's normally too much but it was the last one.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I don't want to know/remember, but it was probably too much ;)

More seriously, I try not to spend more than 4/5€ for a fairly common miniature but I can spend way more for a really rare one, or to complete a range when the 2 or 3 last ones keep escaping me...

So what you're saying is, it's being hand-delivered to you by chariot, driven by a team of white stallions.

If only. It's a pretty hard to find model, I've seen him go for twice that, but also 2/3 of that price.

I hear that.
My view on the philosophy of it all:

Better to buy a few, nice pieces than lots of "stuff".

Lead mountain will never be completely mined anyway.

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I paid $75 for a Heinrich Kemler mini, but my max bid higher so there was at least one other person who wanted it as badly as I did (sorry... :  ).

I usually don't mind $8-12 per model. I still buy modern GW stuff from time to time and some of the new kits run around there. I might go a little higher if a model finishes a unit.

I budget my eBay purchases by the week. If there are lots of auctions ending that I'm watching during the week I tend to bid lower or stick to buy it now auctions that are in my $8-12 range and fill in gaps in units I'm collecting. If there isn't much on my list, I might go for a higher budget item. I actually like auctions with a group of models for sale, especially if I can get a full unit in one shot - I might bid more on those.

There are a few items on my watch list for which I am willing to pay quite a bit (like the Kemler mini above)...

Re: What's the highest price you've ever paid for a miniatur

I bought one of the big limited edition ral prtha great red dragons when they came out, paid about £50 about 22 years ago.
