Rather than pollute the forum with off topic chat, does anyone have the Warhammer English Civil War rules and be happy to answer some rules questions for me at all via PM/e-mail?

My ebay copy has arrived and despite looking online for game reports and how to's it seems rather untalked about

A bit niche, perhaps?

I had 1644 - written, IIRC, by Rick Priestley - back in the dim & distant. What's if for, your Hammer project? If so, I'd be looking at using Mordheim myself or maybe even some newfangled rules like Devilry Afoot or Silver Bayonet.

I have never played ECW tabletop, apart from some very abstract 'games' I have done as part of history lessons in schools. But if you want to ask me stuff about the history (military and political etc), then I have read quite a bit about it, and delivered several talks about it too.
 
I have a feeling however that you are already knowledgeable about the period.

(I have just started reading a very interesting book about the disastrous expeditions of the 1620s, like La Rochelle, with the Duke of Buckingham heavily involved. I've always wanted to know more about that period of military history just before the civil wars. The bad grammar in the book is only mildly annoying, in that if they had handed me the draft I could have given them hundreds of simple grammar corrections to do with full stops, commas, repeated words and phrases, etc. Thus the reading of the book is a stumbling affair, but the information is great.)

Not a clue.
Really truly bugger all.

I have the same knowledge any normal non gamer non historian has.
It was Roundheads and Cavaliers.

I am dipping my toes into the period first with a documentary to get the rough jist of it, then the rules and then some schoolboy weighted books.

In terms of games I am going low level skirmish scenario type games rather than any sort of pitched battle, more like rpg scenarios.
Farm raids, witch hunts, escorting ladies, chasing spies, busting smuggling rings, convoy ambushes, etc.

Back to my hunt for someone that plays with these rules.

I ran a 1st ed WFRP set in ECW England at a Student Nationals once, then the next day another set in the early 1680s (about highwaymen). I should dig them out, edit them and put them onto the web. For now, however, I have a silly amount of stuff to do for the next Tilea's Troubles' story!

Hee hee. I found the scenario buried in a folder from 2002. A lovely bunch of pre-gen PCs, and what I recall was a fun scenario. Here's an excerpt ...

Start situation:

The PCs are sitting in the Great Hall of their Hall, upon a summer’s afternoon. It’s hot, has been for two days now, and although the company are meant to be playing a round or two of Cribbidge-Noddy, the lazy mood is contagious. Even Tom isn’t really concentrating upon his game. The dinner has been frugal, but the heat meant no-one felt too much like eating anyway.

· It is Wednesday 11th June, St. Barnabas day - for which Lucy has picked roses and lavender for the family to wear.

· Hay making time approaches (will begin within days - perhaps ought to have begun already in case rain comes and ruins the job).

· Midsummer’s Eve (23rd June) is only a dozen days away, when bonfires will be lit on the slopes of Hunt’s Hill, as they have every midsummer’s eve, even though some in the village of a more puritanical bent (including the preacher Roderick Galt) have demanded that the old practice should stop.

Trouble:

Mother comes in. She is perturbed, obviously upset, and needs calming. She has heard some news (GM info redacted, in case I ever publish it), which will come out in a fragmented fashion - unless the PCs calm her and get her to make sense...

Well if you ever get curious, buy Warhammer English Civil War from ebay or the like, read it, scoff at how terribly it represents Pike and Shotte warfare but decide to collect a small army anyway, you know you have someone to play.
 
I think if you're looking for someone who still actively plays the game it's a small pool you are fishing in! My experience at the club is that Warhammer Ancient Battles (and its derivatives) have faded into wargaming history. I don't know anyone who uses them and that includes the stuff that was a lot more popular (I had far more games from the shieldwalll supplement).
I mean I have played with the rules a couple of times (and owned them) but it must have been over 20 years ago. My main recollection is a cheesy as hell photo of Jon Stallard near the front, its a self contained ruleset and that you can run out of ammo. Lovely book to have, I kind of regret selling a lot of mine off years ago.

For sure it will be a miracle, more so if they are within driving distance.

I am lucky that my wife plays WFB with me as does a local chap.
She will no doubt play these too, but it is always nice to not have to paint and buy all the models needed as I do currently.

But someone to help with rules queries is my main aim.
