Warhammer: 80s Comic book

okay.. I really don't remember this.. going through some 1989 Whitedwarf's, they say about the progress and how they are about to launch a monthly comic 'Warhammer'.. this would be 1989, or more likely early 1990..

I don't remember one ever being released.. I think something must have happened but they seam close enough that a dummy issue would have probebly been made atleast.. any ideas?

Lets see if I can collect some information:
White Dwarf 114 said it'll be a new monthly comic coming Summer (114 was June 1989). It shows a preview of a character and 6 inked and lettered pages (but small). States the first few issues will features characters such as :
- Sigmar Heldenhammer, the Fantasy hero whose epic war against the Orcs and Goblins created the Empire of the old World
- Captain Black, a commander of the Dark Angels Space Marines. (character pictured appears to be him.. after reading some issues of New Mutants/X-force and liking the character of Cable (clearly).
- Redd Harvest (Dark Future)
- Thudd the Barbarian.
States some of the best comic artists from the world. Art has a sig of Knifton
which is clearly GW/Citadel artist Pete Knifton

It's peeked my British comic interest.. I know a couple of people that have much better contacts in the business but I do believe that a dummy issue, or even a rough of issue 1 was produced (art wise) but never released.. probably not happen with it or given a dummy preview release.. I think Pete Knifton is still around.. Gonna have to do some investigating..

WD 128 (August 1990)
- Ian Abbinnett and Alan Cowsill join the Design studio at GW as Editors for the Warhammer Comic, Said to be coming along well.

Thanks to Lew Stringer, I have found a copy of 'Warhammer Monthly' #0 (preview) and #1. American size comic. They seam to go for a pretty high price but.. however.. Looking on Comics.org.. they claim it was Canadian.., ran for 85 issues (including 0) before becoming Warhammer Comic for.. erm.. 2 issues..

problem is, while one person is selling issue 1 as 1989, does state correctly lower down that it is 1998.. and doesn't seam to be like what was in the works..

Oh and just reading, some bad news.. they regret to say there is a price increase in GW products.. Advanced Space Crusade and Advanced Heroquest are going to be £24.99, and a typical blister pack of 4 miniatures will be £3.99.. but on the plus side, those Wizards of Morcar Greens look good

Because I'm way more interested then I probably should be but I contacted Carl Critchlow and got a reply:

He did a couple of Thudd stories for the Warhammer comic, one was written by Tim 'Robin Hood' Pollard. He also did the first Dark Future strip featuring Redd Harvest which was written by Richard Halliwell.

He thinks the plans were to use existing staff and freelancers for most of the writing and art but it dawned on the management just how much time, effort, specialist knowledge and the volume of material needed to make a decent monthly. Unknown what happened to the Artwork produced for it but doesn't appear to have been released in any way (apart from that little advert).

Oh, just to kinda complete this.. I've slightly cleaned up the preview image
