Warhammer 40,000 Compendium

Glad to get a (well loved) copy of the Compendium. Never had one back in the day (used to borrow my mate’s copy), some inspiring articles, photos and illustrations, including that iconic Badab markings plate!

The Mk6 arms look good on the older bodies. I've got some of the plastic mk7 multi part marines somewhere without arms, I can finally get round to finishing them. Looks like Fire Hawks are on the to do list now.

Yep, someone from the Inq 28 community sent me a load of old bits, few plastic beastmen with broken weapons, half a Marine bike, complete 2nd ed chaos dread, and a few of the plastic mk7.
Would you get any use outta them? I don't really wanna go down the 40k rabbit hole again. Too busy with my Barons War/Bretonnia stuff lol.

ugh.. I'm confused with the original RT plastic space marines.. I got some in white/cream plastic, some in green, some in blue... did they just use whatever plastic was to hand that day?

yes, I know they were mk6 but it just reminded me

Apparently, I only knew them with the cream plastic, but have subsequently seen them in various other hues!

I had green and dark blue, both the colours used in Space Marine 1st ed as well. Those sprues came from the 30 man boxes. When they released the 10 man box near the end of first ed they switched to cream/white.

Damn I miss those lil wombles.

Yes. These early plastics GW were not having enough produced to be able to dictate what colour, they were at the mercy of whatever colour the manufacturers were running at the time.

The green, black and cream sprues are all shown on https://miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=RTB1_Imperial_Space_Marines I've got a few green bits and pieces, but I think most of mine back in the day were the cream coloured ones.

I remember having a hell of a time covering the red and blue of the Blood Bowl (2nd) miniatures and gosh the yellow and orange from Dungeonbowl was bright. Then some of the later small box GW introduction games deliberately used bright plastic colours for their pieces. Pink marines however never crossed my path alas!

By the time you get to AHQ, Blood Bowl etc. they're ordering enough volume to puck colour. But more than they can sell in the boxed games they were designed for, hence the 'beginners' series of games (Ultramarine, Kerrunch, Mighty Warriors) and bags of them you could buy from GW shops.

oh, never saw the bags but then.. I didn't have a local GW store, or atleast one to visit, for... a pretty long time.. mostly it was just shops which sold GW stuff

Yeah my local was upstairs in a sports shop, through a side door up a wonky staircase into a tiny room that could hold about 6 people. Big Viking dude behind the counter who was always eating with Iron Maiden or Sisters of Mercy playing. First time I went in was the month WD 151 came out. I bought a blister of Chaos Terminators, a blister of Lightning Claw Terminators, size 0 brush and a pot of smelly primer. God I miss that place.
*Sad gamer noises*
