Warbases Movement Trays

Quick question for the gathered knowledge,

Warbases sell a range of movement trays for a low cost and I was wondering if anyone here has used them? Particularly the close formation movement trays?

Are they worth bothering with or do you have a alternative you prefer

Cheers

I've used warbases a lot, not so much the movement trays (i have a couple around somewhere) but loads of the 1p and 2p regiment bases and plain bases. Quality is good and I've never had any problems with the bases falling apart. You'll get a 2mm msdf base with a 2mm/3mm lip attached. Lip will be reasonably thick (circa 3mm) and if you like the top of the movement tray to be reasonably flush with a slotta base then you'll want 3mm for the top.
So I'd recommend them is what I guess I'm saying :)
Is there anything you particularly want to know?

I took the risk earlier today and ordered 6 large close order 3mm trays for my Fimir, only worked out at £12.

Is there MDF treated so it takes glue/paint/primer better or will I run into problems if I sand them?

I 'believe' sanding MDF is a bit of a no no, although that might be a bit of an exaggeration as cutting it a lot is supposed to be mouth mask territory.
MDF isn't great for things that get 'wet', so I just primed them with car spray before slapping any paint on them. Did have any issues with the paint sticking tbh.

To be honest I've painted, glued (super and wood), flocked, varnished and polyfillered the bases with no issues at all. About the only thing you need to be careful with is cutting as the edges can fray but nothing a gentle sanding hasn't resolved. This lot are of varying ages but are all fine and after quite a bit of use in the case of the saxons:

The trays are nice but you have to be careful that your bases are not even a fraction larger than the 25 by 25 or 20 by 20 because they are a tight fit.

I had problems with some resin bases which were about 26 by 26 and my unit simply would not fit in. Another unit was based on 25 by 25 plywood , but the milliput basing material overspilled a tiny bit on some of them and same problem. So far i have actually no units which will fit the trays, it is quite annoying. I wish they had a bit of extra space in them.

I'll take a few pics when I get mine and see how tight they are. My bases then to be bulky and over hang so it doesn't bold well it seems.

If you are using GW slottabases you might be ok. They are about 23mm across the top (the one on the right of this pic), so you can get away with a bit of overhang.

It's a mix of both so here's hoping, if now it'll get mean a few extra hours sorting the bases out.

I have always been a fan of making them out of card & the edge of plastic sprues.

Only takes 10 mins

Cut to size glue them on, bit of sand & scatter. Sorted
