Victoria Miniatures as "Proxies" for ... ?

I adore the Victoria Miniatures Victorian Guard miniatures that I have. They are, of course, lovely proxies for the long OOP "Praetorians" (and may even seen some action in ideas I have for Steampunk and Moorcockian war-gaming and role-playing) and even include women soldiers (which I like having in my SF forces).

But can the board members help me identify what other VM forces might serve as proxies for -- and their historical inspirations? (I'm drawing a lot on this 40k wiki for my information. My military history is not at the level at which I might like!)

I am especially interesting in identifying the inspirations for the Rausenberg Siege Corps--but I'll be grateful for any suggestions and/ or corrections.
 
not really up on the imperial guard.. but the figures of the rausenberg remind me of more of the WW2 german outfits (with the greatcoat in that style) and using the name 'Rausenberg'.. there is the german town of Rauschenberg.. means something like noisy town or something

Also an earlier battle between the Teutonic Knights and the Poles/Lithuanians.

van Diemen’s as Catachans without the steroids? Desert Scorpions as WW2 Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) whose badge featured a scorpion?

FYI, King John III Sobieski led the Poles to victory over the Ottoman Turks outside Vienna in 1683. Polish winged hussars are the most famous part of the army at that time.
 
P.S. Warhammer’s Kislev is basically the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Compare Victoria’s hussars to Kislevite Winged Lancers & Polish Winged Hussars.

Apologies to all for not replying more quickly. It was the fault of ... <waves hands around> "life."

I'm actually looking more closely at the Tannenburg/ not-Mordians. (I'm still drawn to the Rausenberg soldiers but ... don't really want to put not-Nazis on my table. Sigh. It's a personal preference thing.) I've just seen some 15mm 1870 Prussians and their chunky rifles at that scale mean that I might actually be able to field a convincing proxy force in that scale too. :idea:8-) (Unfortunately, I'd have to do quite a bit of converting to make 20mm or 1/72 work*. Hmmm ... )
