Tzigane's Orc Warband

Thanks!

Some of the models are based on the same body, with differences in some details, like the heads or weaponry. So, very well possible! :)

Next up, as soon as they arrive in the mail, some Marauder orcs:

Thanks very much! :)

Concerning the shields: Silly faces of course!

I've not decided on the specifics yet, but I want to see if I can take shieldpainting a step higher again for these. Luckily a friendly community member from a Dutch wargaming forum sent me a dozen-and-a-half round shields to experiment on!

This is great, the different colours of the scales must be a pain to paint but the result is very much worth it ! It really brings life without doing too much on weathering. The contrast with the bright green of the skin works very well imo. I realy like those !

Thanks!

Deciding on the colours of the scales was the biggest problem actually! (Light brown, dark brown and black? Dark brown, red and black? Light brown, dark brown and red? )

Here are two more shields, now that I'm seeing the left shield somewhat enlarged, I'll go back and do some touch-ups.

Wooooow! What an impressive set of minis! Love the results you got there, wonderful tones everywhere. These last shields are incredible.
Great!

Thanks!

This should almost be enough for a WFB 3rd edition battle?

Too bad there aren't any people around to play with here.

Great paintjob on those greenskins, I really like it. I love those MB2 orcs as well - I have a bunch waiting for painting.

What program do you use to crop out your pictures and paste them on a different background? I have been wanting to learn to do that - any good links for a tutorial?

Thanks!

I use photoshop. Mind you, I'm a professional photographer too. :)

- photograph miniatures on a white background (makes it easier to get completely even with a bit of overexposure)
- Prepare picture for editing using a RAW editor (colour balance, curves, sharpness etc)
- Open in PS
- Select white background using the magic wand tool
- Expand selection by one pixel
- Feather selection, one pixel
- Invert selection
- copy your selection onto a background of choice. Using a simple gradient could work, but a not too heavy texture works fine.
- use layer styles to add a glow, if you want. I think it makes the miniatures stand out a bit more.

Very nice indeed! I love these figures with the traditional molded shields they came with...your free hand ones take them to the next level though! 8-)

Cheers,

Blue

Thanks for the info! I don't have PS, but I bet I could figure out the same thing using GIMP or something. I recently got a DSLR, so am working on improving my miniature photography skills. Keep up the good work!

Cool! GIMP can do the same thing I think. Good luck with the new camera and picture taking. If you need any advice, feel free to PM!

Not a very old model, but I thing she fits the style perfectly. Here is a reaper orc hag, I shall be using her as Witch hired sword for my warband!
