twisted moon's 2026

a small unit of slingers today:

Skaven slings1a.jpg

the second from either end are plastic mordheim skaven which i (think i) picked up with a bulk lot in the early years of this millenium.
since then i haven't really had any intention to use them.
when i was placing the order with northwing miniatures, i thought i might as well buy the other three to give me a small unit.

if i had paused to think for a moment, i might have realised i could instead easily convert the mordheim plastics to the two beast-handlers i require to finish off a couple of units. oh well.
it's possible i'll double the size of this unit if i see any figures that i like (as always, at a price i'm prepared to pay, of course). in the meantime, they may come in handy in skirmish games. slings are always useful grenade delivery mechanisms in games of rogue trader, after all.

i've also made a unit base for my screaming bell ...

... and a movement tray for the slave unit. i'm sure i photographed the tray on its own, but, if i did, the photo. has disappeared.

the slaves and handlers are from multiple sources (even some citadel), painted over many years. the screaming bell is from inquisition miniatures. i painted it prior to 2017, thus it has not been posted here before.

Excellent! Could also be a huge cast of extras wandering up for a Conan movie set. (I can almost smell them from here).

with orctober upon us i have painted up the second half of my wolf rider unit.

Goblin Wolfriders1a.jpg

crooked dice at either end which i got at vapnartak this year, in from them are a couple of pre-slotta citadel orcs i picked up at lead and steel in april mounted on some wolves that i've had for a while (and can't remember the manufacturer), in the middle is the marauder miniature orc general on a resin wolf (courtesy of @Eric). i've added a milliput horn to the general to make him the unit's musician.

Goblin Wolfriders1b.jpg

crooked dice have the riders and wolves cast together with separate weapon arms. if i'd realised that i'd probably just have bought two blisters and swapped the arms around on the second pack. not realising it means i have a more old school unit.

the marauder goblin general is doing duty as the unit standard bearer. the other four are ghost miniatures orcs, if i recall correctly, bought at vapnartak many years ago and presumably painted before 2017, as they don't seem to have been posted before (outside a couple of battle reports).

Proper mayhem! This is why monopose orcs never worked for me - they should be a riot of shapes, sizes and kit. The blue pulls them together as a unit nicely.

my next addition to the blue moon crew is another couple of 'chariots'. actually a couple of looted farm carts that the boyz have pressed into action.

Goblin Chariots1a.jpg

both carts are mdf kits from blotz: the turnip cart on the left and the hay cart on the right.

Goblin Chariots1b.jpg

the turnip cart is pulled by the marauder warboar, released as the orc general's mount (remounted on a wolf above). the hay cart by an elven beast handler boar (i think) picked up at lead & steel in april.

Goblin Chariots1c.jpg

i also picked up another goblin king's chariot driver from the same source, whilst the hay cart is driven by a random gnoblar i picked up at a show a few years ago for this very purpose. the gnoblar has had his head replaced with one from warhammer regiments and his sword with a milliput whip.

Goblin Chariots1d.jpg

the fighting crew are ral partha europe deadly dungeon miniatures: goblin berserker with morning star, cloak and goblin berserker with morning star, armoured. weapon choices were inspired by the goblin king's chariot, which they'll be fighting alongside.
