Trying not to ruin these ruins.

I have a not-so-Mighty-anymore Fortress that was much beseiged in the late 80s /early 90s and is now decidely worse for wear. I have three functional towers, and so I thought I'd try to rescue the fourth, which is made up of the most broken pieces.

It's an excuse to try some hoarding like the pictures in Warhammer Siege (or a very amateur version). I can't bring myself to cut up intact things from the old days, so anything broken gives a kind of permission to be more creative. Anyone else seek out the odd broken mini for this reason?

Also I've realised my craft skills are about OK for ramshakle snotling structures (It's squint on purpose... honest) but might not stretch to something supposedly built by adults.

Guilty as charged, ahem. "My name is Eric and I'm addicted to Mighty Fortresses". I've been planning to sacrifice some of the more beaten up bits to collapses and so forth, I'd also like to try to re-create the ones photographed in Siege/WD/etc. Somewhat inspired by Fimm's amazing battlefield at BOYL this year.

That hoarding is looking really good - your model making not my hoarding... ;). I think that should add some nice character to the tower, you can always model it slightly as if it's been struck by a siege engine at some point and the castle owner has yet to carry out proper repairs and has just propped up bits of masonry and so forth.

Wow - that is an amazing collection, Eric! I'm just trying to picture the sorts of layouts that could be possible with that lot :)

familiar from seeing some 6ed plastics.. It's empire clearly but.. can't say what they did stick some really weird stuff but some of it was fun in that you got TONS of fodder parts ^_^

I appreciate the green towards the wall bases and the staining below the windows, nice touches. Your wooden structure certainly looks the part. Defiantly recovered not ruined!

While not trying to be a bit nasty, cause I'm not, but I think some of the finger joints in this work well cause castle walls do have such deeper cuts at times, and in an time when there is a lot of sieges and stuff, it's fine. The door could do with a bit of putty but the new tower is great, Also love how it's turned out with a natural bow to some bits. Too often you can do something like wood and it comes out as unnaturally perfect which can really ruin a job. These little bits all add the character to make it more and more natural looking.

So, so far, really good job ^_^
