And off I go forward to the 'live end' of the campaign. This will be a video in two or so years' time, I reckon! Don't read any of these if you are enjoying the unfolding story of the videos, 'cos all this stuff is spoiler city!
Near Palomtrina, North-East of Remas After three hours of blessing the dead, praying with the wounded and praising the soldiers for their brave service, and all this immediately after commanding hi…
^By the time you get to the video version I'll have forgotten some of the details and it'll be high time for a refresher. I'm more than happy to read everything and then hear it all again when you do the readings yourself a couple of years down the line. And if you make it all into a television series . . . It's past time for Netflix to give you a call, honestly.
You know (perhaps) that 'scuttlebutt' refers to the water butt on the deck of a ship where the sailors gathered to drink water and gossip, and thus our modern use of the word scuttlebutt for gossip? Well, this is just that, except with wine not water, and no ship. Part 88 of Tilea's Troubles ...
Once again, and about time, off we go to the 'live' end of the campaign. Having said RIP to Lord Urlak, his player now has a new PC, the condottiere general Vizconde Gismono Giacometti, and this is the introductory story ...
^I do love the way you build continuity in your story. I'm terrified of killing off my characters like that, but man, it adds some verisimilitude to the thing. Lovely work, Padre! Absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks again, Symph. If characters di on the field of battle, and recovery rolls fail (or by the rules are not allowed, like after an overkill) there's nothing I can do! Just gotta roll with it!
Tilea's Troubles, Part 90 is up. The wars continue in Tilea, and this video helps to explain the general situation. With figures old and new, common and obscure, and a bunch of pics from older videos.
He's probably in for a rough time. Not necessarily one that we will see in the stories though.
Meanwhile: A very elaborate excuse, but is it convincing? Lord Silvano Gondi explains his father's actions to the general commanding the army surrounding his city. Part 93 ...
An army of pirates feature in this prequel to an upcoming battle report. Volker's Sartosans have decided they should deal with a thorn in their side, despite there being no extra plunder to be had. Part 94 of Tilea's Troubles ...
Ah, but is it 'well done'? A part of me feels guilty for diving so deep and long into the world of toy soldiers instead of doing something ... more ... more 'real'. Still, we only live once, and not to indulge in toy soldier worlds would be remiss.
Stories give us hope and lift our spirits. They teach us the difference between right and wrong. They show us a mirror on ourselves. They may not be "factual" in the sense of history, but they serve a real purpose and do real good. And your toy soldiers serve as a key to a particularly good story you're telling with a bit of help from your friends and some randomness provided by the dice. Your prose gives it elegance, the dice give it gravity, and your friends add character. It's really rare to encounter a good work of speculative fiction that feels so real, where you really can't predict how it will come out in the end. An OVA Anime called Legend of the Galactic Heroes might be the only other one I can immediately think of, and that is to my mind the absolute gold standard of how you do space opera; surpassing even epics like Star Wars in my esteem, thanks to its internal consistency, epic scope, verisimilitude, and striking characterizations. You're doing that. Your story has those elements. I think it's clear you're getting more done than I am! I still try to write music. (Even succeed every once in a while.) I still entertain fantasies about writing fiction. (In part inspired by your work.) But the sheer volume of stuff you've cranked out; of real, beautiful, solid gold stuff; is humbling.
