The Woods in the Woods 2026

Lovely day of gaming outdoors in the woods with some great people!

First game I had was against Merfolk on @Fimm McCool’s amazing Crannog board prepared for Salute. My bullish Fae Queen barged in and bit off more than she could chew against a deadly Nuckelavee and also got netted by his fishy friends. Fae magic did its thing to get her out of this sticky situation, but put her in range of further attacks… However objectives were achieved - with my captive Whist Hound rescued and rushed off board and a target merfolk taken out of action!

After a tasty BBQ the second game used the Salute barrow cavern with 4 warbands (fae, merfolk, fenfolk & bogle minefolk) convening on the tomb for treasure (or a very angry wyrm!). We agreed to play reduced warbands for a “Shiverspeed” game. Queenie uncovered the first treasure which awoke the wyrm whilst my whist hounds rushed across the cavern. Queenie was within an inch of her life before glamour magic swapped her with a whist hound which promptly took out the head of the ancient dragon as it gobbled down on the poor dog. The mer and fen folk took pot shots on the queen and her minions, but were too slow to stop them zooming out of the caverns.

After cleaning up the tables a number of us went for drinks and pizza at a local brewery tap for more socialising. Great event and highly recommended for everyone! 😀

Sounds like a fab time. Hope to join you all next year, fingers crossed!
Got the book, and I'm delighted with the improvements Shivershield brings compared to 2ed. The old Orders and Company rules frazzled my brain a bit, but everything seems so streamlined and clear now.
Plus the generally smaller warband sizes have me fired up to complete a couple of new forces, once I've adapted my existing Hearthfolk to fit the new lists that is.
Looking forward to more piccies of this event appearing in the coming days.
