Echoing the others, your current style looks great. Glad you're carrying on with it.

I have tried contrast paints but have never been happy with the results and looking online others seem to get much better results. However I am a fan of the new citadel/others washes. Which are much better than the old citadel inks.

I think the yellow breeches in particular look a lot better with the good deep shadows. And the figures just look crisper somehow for the addition of the black lines and dark touches. Experimenting with new techniques can be rewarding, so I hope I didn't come across as discouraging there. We all have our limits. (The day I use an airbrush to paint a figure will be the day after I died, I expect.) But we need to grow to keep the hobby fresh. And our styles do change as we grow. But there is something impressive about a large, cohesive, and stylistically consistent scene that is altogether impressive. So maybe the trick is making the changes sufficiently gradual as to prevent them from becoming jarring when things are put together.

Swamp zombies done! (Bar bases.) Spray primer/base coat, block painting with acrylic base paints, washed with an Army Builder dip. I love them – so different to my old style, and a lovely (!) change.

The command, all Black Tree Designs swamp zombies. The standard came out much darker than I wanted but I will know next time …

Rear of one of the guys. Those skulls, that chain – they are far more realistic than I ever achieved in 35 years of enamel ‘cartoon’ style. And I bloomin’ love it …

4th rank - the one ‘space filler’ I needed to make 35 into a 6x6 footprint! Stake still needs more work, obviously …
