The need for a definition.

I know there has been more than one discussion about this.
But it strikes me we need some sort of definition ... even if it just a one liner.
I like "In battle there is no Law" and I like Zhu's 'Oldhammer Contract'.
But we need something in between these that sums up what we are about.
The best one liner I have seen so far was along the lines of ...

'Oldhammer: older miniatures, older games and (most importantly) an old fashioned attitude to gaming'

Can we do any better than this?

I like In Battle There is No Law, not only because it is a Bolt-Thrower song and album, but because it captures the anti-rules lawyer and free wheeling essence of Oldhammer gaming.

It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

"There is no winning, there is no losing, there is only the tale and those who tell it"

I like the idea behind this. Narrative-driven playing instead of competitive playing.

So how about "In Battle there is no Loser" ?

Problem: The competitive players using old minis would be "left out".

Choose Warhammer. Choose a starter box set. Choose an army book. Choose some miniatures. Choose some paints. Choose a fucking big table, Choose point allocated units, complaining about price, and PDF rulebooks. Choose Finecast models, the latest model kit and more skulls. Choose your army being obsolete in the next rulebook update. Choose a league. Choose army books and exactly matching paint jobs. Choose only ever buying Citadel Miniatures, be they old or new, so long as the suits calling the shots give you permission. Choose playing in a Games Workshop store. Choose sitting at that computer watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing debates about the failing business of a stock-market traded toy soldier company. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, on top of a mountain of unpainted plastic toys, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats playing the latest edition. Choose your future. Choose Warhammer...

But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose Warhammer: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got Oldhammer?

Leadspotting, I like it. Probably need to spend a little more time in MS Paint to integrate these elements properly...

No argument from me. I don't have a Belfast accent but the rest is basically Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development.

I don't mind

"oldhammer where old is new again"

or

"Oldhammer, not forgotten"

but I do like "in battle there is no law", where do I get the shirts from I see some guys wearing in the photo's on Foundry site?

I just got a pair of Zhu's tshirt and they look great, but fair warning for the Americans: the sizes are some weird Euro scale, so the Medium is really a Small and the sleeves are very short compared to the length of the shirt (kinda like a muscle shirt). I'm assuming it's just some continental style that hasn't caught on over on this side of the pond.

This is a commercial message on behalf of Zhu's Oldhammer Incorporated(TM):

Hey, yeah. "I made that" :)

UK

http://zhu-shop.spreadshirt.co.uk/

US

http://zhu-shop.spreadshirt.com/

Depending on your shipping location, either one might make more or less sense.

Galadrin - not sure, Spreadshirt (the on-demand printer) has changed their shirts recently, and I too found the M a bit skinny on the previous (although I might be just deluding myself that my beer belly is smaller than it really is). They did offer an OK returns policy, if you're not happy with the sizes or anything at all do look into that - I just do the design, the manufacturing and fulfilment is carried out by Spreadshirt.

Could do an orange "Leadspotter" one if there was any interest :)

Bah, oldhammer t-shirt, schmoldhammer t-shirt.

I want one that says "Rouge Trader". Yeah, "rouge". Now Id wear one of those. Thats a concept I can back.

It probably doesnt help to define anything though, the opposite really.
