The Emperor was the Eternal Champion...

[Fighelm]

I know, I know!
...Just read that the Donaldbane/Elric miniature (well his head anyway) was used by Mike McVey in his famous 40K diorama of the Emperor vs Horus.

Was reading Orlygg's RoC blog earlier and it had an old pic of the diorama. McVey's interview from 10yrs ago: http://realmofchaos80s.blogspot.com/2016/08/citadel-colour-interview-with-mike-mcvey.html

Cool, not sure I'd clocked that before.

Every time I see that diorama it's the armour that gets me. The freehand is amazing. Brother Meredith and I were pouring over it at Warhammer World a month or two ago. Not the greatest of photos, but here were a couple of snaps I took that you can see the freehand in at least:

really love that diorama and the details. Really need to find that issue of WD...

Anyone remember them idiots on the one 'web board' laughing at how rubbish this diorama is? what idiots...

#183!

A 6 page article talking about making it and getting pieces and stuff. Could be more in detail but it's still good

WD#183 by all accounts.

Coincidentally, some facebook fan page posted another old McVey diorama photoshoot this AM. The Slann temple one with the Mage sat on chair, shot & bleeding from the chest. The Saurian guard attacking the Tilean infiltrators. The details are incredible, incl. smoking pistol!

Contrasting the dessicated/crackling pattern on Horus' armour vs the swirls on the Emps.

That is a very small part of it and yeah, it was a great diorama

[Fimm McCool]

All the swirls and cracks on the armour there are mind-blowing. I can't even do the McVey lightning strikes on my Heroquest chaos warriors!

[ManicMan]

I'm sadly gonna have to try at some point.. I'm kinda worried how it is gonna turn out.

[Brother Meredith]

What are you planning?!?

If I ever witness someone laughing at this diorama you'll see me in the news next.
